Woody Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 is pleading for a million dollars before the first of the year. Anyone wanting to donate can go to his web site. He says that with so many out of work ... that his ministry it in the hole $900,000.00 . Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Guest Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 So are you advocating that we SDAs should send money to support Rick Warren? Quote
Woody Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 If the Spirit moves ... Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 Unbelievable... Following the Holy Spirit is "unbelievable"? Unbelievable Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Guest Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 If the Holy Spirit has led you to babylon, then why don't you join his church? Quote
Woody Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 REDWOOD WELL that is an interesting post about Rick Warren dgrimm60 Yes. Thanks. I thought it was interesting. I heard it on a News station that I am not allowed to mention on Townhall. (Don't tell anyone) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

If I had extra I would sent him some money, but I'm in the same boat as him. Maybe I should put out an ad for money. Just joking, but if he than maybe I can! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Not saying that we shouldn't but they must take care not to get in such a bad place. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Outta Here Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I think he'll probably be able to raise the $900,000 fairly quickly. Question: Has anyone here actually read The Purpose Driven Life or participated in a 40 Days of Purpose program? Our church plant read the book as a group and then we did the program for 40 days. For the small group who met in our home, I can say that it was a nice time shared by all; it brought us closer to Christ and closer to one another. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted December 31, 2009 Administrators Posted December 31, 2009 In spite of all that is said that is bad about Rick Warren in our circles, the Purpose-Driven Life was one factor that inspired my son to become an active church member. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted December 31, 2009 Members Posted December 31, 2009 I read the Purpose Driven Life. I found it to be a bit "new age-y".. Can't remember much about it anymore. He has lots to contribute to getting us closer to our Savior. He might not preach the SDA theology but he loves the savior just as much. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Outta Here Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I agree that it was faily simplistic in terms, but for a church plant (one that focused on bringing "lost" members back to the church, as well as drawing new members from the community) it was a useful tool in outreach. Quote
Moderators Gerr Posted December 31, 2009 Moderators Posted December 31, 2009 Just tagging on. I get so many calls for donation in the mail. They all seem to be worthy causes. Homeless people, hungry children, home for wayward troubled kids. The list is endless. The trouble is I/we don't know which are legitimate and which ones are just money-making "charities." Having been in the military, for decades I used to donate to DAV (Disabled American Vets). Then ABC (I think) exposed the scam that something like only 10% was going to its intended beneficiary. The rest went into the pockets of those raising the moneys. It makes one very cynical. As for Warren, no, I don't feel the Spirit telling me to donate to his ministry. My wife went through his "Purpose..." book twice and with a group. The ones I have had a burden to contribute to: Habitat for Humanity, ADRA, my alma maters, Holbrook Indian School and a few others. That's very true Gerry, I have ones that I contribute to. If you sent money to each one, you'd have no money left. But since being out of work, I've cut back on that too. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Gail Posted December 31, 2009 Administrators Posted December 31, 2009 I like the idea of letting the Spirit lead on this. God knows who has and who hasn't. He is well able to direct, if we let Him. Besides, it also gives us a legitimate reason for saying No when we need to! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Moderators Gerr Posted December 31, 2009 Moderators Posted December 31, 2009 It is so hard to say no when they all seem so worthy of our help. Quote

LifeHiscost Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Unbelievable... The only thing I know about Rick Warren is his book title, "The Purpose Driven Life". I've more or less felt if a person's greatest purpose was to know Jesus as Savior and Lord, He would give me whatever other purpose would be best for His plan for my life. What is it about Rick that elicits the response above, Richard. Do you think he's dangerous? Joy! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I can say that it was a nice time shared by all; it brought us closer to Christ and closer to one another. Was that the purpose to which the book led each of you? Joy! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Guest Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 What is it about Rick that elicits the response above, Richard.Do you think he's dangerous? Yes. He teaches dependence on self. He says what we need the most is more self esteem, more looking within ourselves for answers. That is not what the Bible teaches. What we really need most is a relationship with Jesus Christ. More dependence on Him, not self. It's just another babylonian, money making, feel good religion, that leads millions astray. It looks good if you just glance at it, and don't look to deep. But isn't that the way it is with all of Satan's deceptions? Quote
LifeHiscost Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 In spite of all that is said that is bad about Rick Warren in our circles, the Purpose-Driven Life was one factor that inspired my son to become an active church member. Praise God, for He is able to use many different means to motivate us toward Himself. Is there something special about Rick that your son indicated as helpful in his decision? I'm assuming his decision to become an active church member is a result of his desire to walk as he felt Jesus would wish for him. JOY!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Administrators Gail Posted December 31, 2009 Administrators Posted December 31, 2009 I'm not sure what the factor was. Sorry! :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
