bonnie Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 A GP...By the way that building that Muslims are wanting to put up a Mosque in, has been being used as such before 9/11, if I'm not mistaken! And this Iman that all are jumping on, he's been working with the US government for a number of years already. Doesn't anyone remember that President Bush used him, and/or was getting advice from him!!!!! But now that its Obama, its a bad thing!!!!! Wow talk about fear mongering. lol It isn't the man. A number of things have been said about him in this ongoing debate but it is the BUILDING. The objection is putting up anything that represents Islam. Their religious liberty to build a church/mosque has never been denied. To claim you are "bridge builder" then keep blowing up the building is a little counter productive Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. bonnie Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Wow... really? Your going to try and deflect the need for YOU as a CHRISTIAN to act like CHRIST by asking how Jesus would act if he were a NON CHRISTIAN MUSLIM?!?!??!?!?!? INSANE!! What is it you think I have done that is unchristian other than to state I don't think the mosque should be built there. There was no deflection intended. If it is insane to state that I believe Christ would cause as little hurt as possible,so be it.Legally they have the legal right to build there. As for the 3000 innocent Americans who died on 911... how about the over 1 million civilians killed in Iraq (which NEVER sent a TERRORIST to the US), and nearly 5million iraqi refugees due to the invasion of a country that neither had weapons of mass destruction, nor attacked the USA during 911 There is a lot of information on the death of civilians, your over a million is widely inflated according to those that know more than you or I.The 3000 + americans died prior to that I believe. Perhaps you were the one that should have given that intelligence information to President Bush. And Clintons,Kerry and all the others that said before going in Saddam was indeed a threat and needed to be stopped. Shameful the way that information was kept quiet by those objecting to go into Iraq. Maybe we as Christians should stop trying to build churches and convert them, as it would be too painful for them considering the millions we, as a CHRISTIAN nation have killed and displaced in their LAND. It might be helpful for you to deal with what was said. The followers of Islam have not been denied the right to build their mosque's. Seemed a little strange that there were those in Iraq that did not want the troop pull out in Iraq. Wow Bonnie... nice doublespeak there... you've never implied that muslims are terrorists...but the fact that they deny they are is, according to you, "telling". What does it "tell" you? That they are, deep down inside, terrorists? Try again to stick to what was said. I said it is telling that those that are many speaking on behalf of muslims and denying so forcefully that they are not all terrorists. Most know that and the ones that don't probably will not be convinced by building a mosque by ground zero OK.. so Bonnie.. if this is NOT about religion, give me one good reason a Mosque cannot be built 2 blocks away from Ground Zero without mention what faith the people who will use the mosque adhere to. If this is not about religion are you then proposing that nothing... not a christian church, not a synagogue, not a supermarket or store can be built within 2 blocks of ground zero? If this were about the religion of Islam and objection for those of that ideology, they would not have so many mosque's in this country. One that is 4-5 blocks away. We have quite a few here and not all are what they are purported to be. Some have been used to recruit young men of the Islam faith to turn them into proper little terrorists.Does that mean that those of the Islam faith should not be allowed their place of worship. Nope If you truly believe that information is not supressed/spun/fabricated/discarted as is seen fit by world governments for war/power/money, etc... well.. I've got a bridge to sell you in brooklyn. Where on earth did you get the above statement? Please try to stick to what was said.I do not believe this conspiracy .The impossible numbers of individuals needed to accomplish this would have been astronomical. That many people cannot keep a secret.I have read some of the tripe that has been put out there. It belongs with the "We did not land on the moon" By this reasoning hopefully no SDA churches exist in Waco Texas, as all members of the branch dividians were at one point SDA, and can be seen as extremist SDAs... and who knows how many more like them lurk in our churches. I don't think it was SDA's that were responsible for the deaths at Waco, unless there is a new conspiracy.Like maybe the ATF etc were really SDA pastors dressed up as ATF. Wow really?? Then why shouldn't they build a Mosque 2 blocks away from the WTC?!?!?!? If they care about "healing wounds" they wouldn't. Again, are you against ANY building in this spot.. or just a Muslim building.. even though you claim this is not about religion??????? Because of the varied families that lost loved ones I would like to see a memorial to them in that area. Much like the Viet Nam Memorial. If the muslims are interested in reaching out they have chosen a odd way to do so Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. doug yowell Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 My question is this... what would Jesus do? When speaking of the "Terrorists" of His day (The Romans), Jesus said that we were to Love our Enemies, Love our Neighbors as ourselves. Jesus taught that if slapped on the right cheek, we were to give the other cheek.. if forced to walk a mile, we were to walk a 2nd, if our coat were taken we were to give our shirt as well... So again I ask, if this was Jesus' stand in regards to the Terrorists of his day, what would Jesus Do? Paula Invite them to blow up the Oakland Bay Bridge during rush hour? Quote
doug yowell Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 My question is this... what would Jesus do? Secondly, All Muslims are not Terrorists. Just as all Adventists are not Branch Davidians. Paula And no Branch Davidians attacked the Waco City Hall. They lived quietly and peacefully on their own compound. But 99% of terrorists attacking the U.S. and the world are Muslims. Quote
doug yowell Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 My question is this... what would Jesus do? Thirdly, The Bible has just as many references to KILLING and CONQUERING as does the Koran. The Bible espouses stoning, husbands killing wives who are unfaithful, killing those who do not convert, and taking their land. In the name of Christianity, this world was plunged into 1260 years of TERRORISM known as the Middle Ages. So then, do we now ban all Christian churches???? Paula So this would be the answer to your original question WWJD? Jesus and His Christian followers would reject the teachings of the Bible and create a new (nicer more compassionate)religion? Better check your Biblical espousals again. Quote

Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 21, 2010 Moderators Posted August 21, 2010 The quote below came form Wickepedia. It does not suggest that 99% of the terriosts are Islamic. NOTE: Some organizations are terriorist due to political/social/governmental issues. Not due to religious. IOW while some terriorists mayb e Islamic, that does not mean that they are terriorist due to religion. E.g. The Taliban at one time was largely Islamic, although it now appears to have more non-Islamic members. In any case, the Talaban came into being for political reasons not religious. And, in the early days the U.S. gave the Taliban major support. Quote: This is a list of designated terrorist organizations by national governments, former governments and inter-governmental organizations, where the proscription has a significant impact on the group's activities. Many organizations that are accused of being a terrorist organization deny using terrorism as a military tactic to achieve their goals, and there is no international consensus on the legal definition of terrorism. This listing does not include states or governmental organizations, which are considered under state terrorism, or unaffiliated individuals accused of terrorism, which are considered under lone wolf terrorism. bonnie Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 If a fraction of what was said against SDA's on a SDA forum were used concerning the Islam faith there would be a fire storm. A conservative SDA has all sorts of "complementary statements?" made against them by SDA's. All muslims are not terrorists, that is a straw man the keeps getting erected. In our area the fear is not terrorism other than being aware now how easy it can happen. One of those involved in the planning of 9/11 was jailed 9 miles from me We have a very large number of somalia muslims. There generally is two groups within that number. The immigrant that assimilates, learns english,is able to support his family is a good neighbor and a asset. They do not feel that they are threatened to lose their heritage. No one requires them to. The other group refuses to assimilate, refuses offers of friendship, refuses to learn english, does not work as a result, demands the US taxpayer take care of them and their family. A handicapped college student was forced out of college here because of complaints by a muslim. His service dog was against the musslim religion. He threatened to kill the dog if the handicapped student brought it to class again. Instead of taking a strong stand the college sat on the fence dithering, afraid to go against the muslim community. Stores here have been sued for not giving paid prayer time to muslims, over and above their paid breaks. Some of their most vocal critics are the first group. The two groups do not mix. The same is true of all types of immigrants. I do not believe the second group behave this way because they are muslim. They do so because they can. If the mosque were an outreach endeavor it should not be placed where it is so upsetting to families that lost so much. So far I don't recall reading why it must be right there. There is a mosque within 4-5 blocks of this location.Obviously they have not been denied because of religious reasons Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. What % of those listed would be Muslim? What is the breakdown of those "terrorists" who have attacked the U.S. Take away Timothy McVay and what % of non-Muslims constitute a terrorist threat to the U.S.today?(not 1971) Who's mainly responsible for the terrorist actions in Bangladesh, Chechnya,Iraq, Afganistan,Moscow, India, the Philippines,Indonesia,Spain,France,UK,Africa,ect... Would it be more accurate to put the figure at,say,88%? Or 79%? Do you think it's more like 50/50? Quote

bonnie Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Wikipedia Muslims The building of the mosque near Ground Zero was criticized by some other Muslims. One was Sufi Muslim mystic Suleiman Schwartz, Executive Director of a Washington, DC non-profit organization, the Center for Islamic Pluralism. He said that building the mosque barely two blocks from Ground Zero is inconsistent with the Sufi philosophy of simplicity of faith and sensitivity towards others[30], disregards the security of American Muslims and the radical associations maintained by Imam Rauf.[127] Another founding member of the Center for Islamic Pluralism, Zuhdi Jasser, who is also the founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, a group of Muslim professionals in the Phoenix Valley of Arizona, strongly opposed the mosque, saying: For us, a mosque was always a place to pray...—not a way to make an ostentatious architectural statement. Ground Zero shouldn't be about promoting Islam. It's the place where war was declared on us as Americans."[30] Neda Bolourchi, a Muslim whose mother died in 9/11, said: "I fear it would become a symbol of victory for militant Muslims around the world."[128] Authors Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah, board members of the Muslim Canadian Congress, said: We Muslims know the ... mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation, to thumb our noses at the infidel. The proposal has been made in bad faith, ... as "Fitna," meaning "mischief-making" that is clearly forbidden in the Koran.... As Muslims we are dismayed that our co-religionists have such little consideration for their fellow citizens, and wish to rub salt in their wounds and pretend they are applying a balm to sooth the pain.[129] Hossein Kamaly, Term Assistant Professor of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures at Barnard College, Columbia University, observed: After all, it was 19 Egyptian and Saudi Arabian thugs calling themselves Muslims who perpetrated this heinous crime on September 11th. They want to send a message of friendship, but building a mosque where there wasn't one before, is not the most nuanced way of doing that.[130] Akbar Ahmed, Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University, while noting that blaming all Muslims for 9/11 was "ridiculous", said: I don't think the Muslim leadership has fully appreciated the impact of 9/11 on America. They assume Americans have forgotten 9/11 and even, in a profound way, forgiven 9/11, and that has not happened. The wounds remain largely open [...] and when wounds are raw, an episode like constructing a house of worship—even one protected by the Constitution, protected by law—becomes like salt in the wounds.[131] He goes on to say that, in his opinion, if the center is constructed as well as a mosque it should contain a memorial and an ecumenical house of worship.[132] Abd Al-Rahman Al-Rashed, general manager of Al-Arabiya television, also criticized the project in a column titled “A House of Worship or a Symbol of Destruction?” in the Arab daily A-Sharq Al-Awsat, saying: Muslims do not aspire for a mosque next to the September 11 cemetery...the mosque is not an issue for Muslims, and they have not heard of it until the shouting became loud between the supporters and the objectors, which is mostly an argument between non-Muslim US citizens! [133][134] Gamal Abd Al-Gawad, director of Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies in Cairo, opposes Park51, saying: Many Muslims fear that the mosque will become a shrine for Islamists, which would remind Americans of what Muslims did on 9/11...Some people express concern that if the mosque will be built, it will harm Muslims and Islam in America. It’s not good for Muslims and Islam to be in the heart of such a controversy [135][134] Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
