I agree.  There will be no such time period.

I think, I disagree. I believe the Day of Atonement found its fulfillment on the cross.  The Bible says that on the day of atonement people are cleansed from all sins:

NAS Leviticus 16:30 for it is on this day that 1atonement shall be made for you to acleanse you; you shall be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

On the cross, Jesus washed us clean from sin in His blood:

KJV Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood

He is the Supreme Sacrifice for sin: He is the High Priest Who offered the supreme sacrifice for sin: He is the Scapegoat that carried our sins to the grave, where no living inhabits.  The annual Yum Kippur of the old covenant found its fulfillment in the New Covenant on the day our Savior died.

Samie,  Obviously I totally disagree with your view here expressed, but I respect your right to that view.

I believe that the "Lord's goat" offered on the Day of Atonement, symbolized the blood of Jesus, offered for our sins.

I believe the "scapegoat" banished to the UNINHABITED place, represented Satan, who will be "banished" to this earth - rendered desolate and uninhabited by the last plagues.

Now - I am going to tell you WHY I believe there will be "perfected" people on this earth, just before the return of Christ in glory.

This is just my own thinking.  I don't have specific texts to verify.

The unfallen beings of other worlds and dimensions, have heard Jesus promise to give eternal life to fallen human beings.  Right?  They must want to know HOW Jesus will prevent making sin immortal.  If Jesus can demonstrate that His method of rehabilitation works - and works perfectly, this would calm the fears, and answer the questions of those unfallen beings.

If Jesus has thousands of "perfect" JOB - type people, going through terrible persecution with faith intact, this would be a powerful demonstration.  Those unfallen beings would know that it was safe to resurrect human beings who had barely begun their rehab.

Think of a prison, and imprisoned pedophile sex offenders.  You read in the paper that all of these men are going to be released BECAUSE Dr. Robinson has developed the perfect cure.  What would you want to see first.  You would want to release a very small number, and monitor them closely.  Right?  When they all pass the test for several years - without even a hint of relapse, that would help you to believe that it was safe to release the rest.

I know this is just my thinking, but I'm explaining WHY I do believe there will be "perfect" people BEFORE the Second Coming.  They are the BEST evidence for Christ.

But that does mean I believe everyone living at the end, MUST reach character perfection, in order not to LOOSE salvation.

NKJ Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

NKJ 1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness -- by whose stripes you were healed.

NKJ Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Jackson,

I'm telling you how Jewish rabbis have interpreted this passage for millennia.  The "Days of Awe" (from Feast of Trumpets to the start of Yom Kippur) were for people to bring their last sin offerings BEFORE the Day of Atonement began at sunset on the 9th day of the 7th month.

There was to be "no man" in the Tabernacle, from the time the HP entered until he finally exited the Tabernacle.  So no other priest could be in the first apartment, with the high priest.

How could the "sin" be transferred to the Tabernacle, if the high priest only offered the morning "daily" and then the ram and the Lord's goat?  No priest other than the high priest offered ANY sacrifice ON the Day of Atonement.

Interesting that you skipped verse 4, which describes the attire that Aaron and future high priests, were to wear when they entered the Tabernacle and the MHP ON the Day of Atonement.

Leviticus 16:4 "He shall put the holy linen tunic and the linen trousers on his body; he shall be girded with a linen sash, and with the linen turban he shall be attired. These are holy garments. Therefore he shall wash his body in water, and put them on." (NKJ)

5 pieces of plain white fine linen - this was the prescribed attire, for the high priest - on the Day of Atonement

Mrs. White has Christ dressed in the "daily" garb, (which included the blue ephod and the breastplate, and the golden mitre) and says this is how Christ was attired IN the Most Holy Place.  My question of course - What is He doing there in the WRONG CLOTHING?    OR   Was the LORD trying to tell the Advent pioneers that it was NOT YET the Day of Atonement???

The word translated "family", is elsewhere translated as "house", which includes more than simply the immediate family of the high priest.  The sacrifice was regarded as FOR the House of Aaron - which would be for the priesthood and the wives and children of the priests.

Samie,

What UNINHABITED PLACE was Jesus banished to?  Death is certainly an inhabited place - NOT uninhabited.  Earth is inhabited.  And Heaven is inhabited.

What "fit man" led Jesus out to this "uninhabited place"?

Jesus DIED on Passover.  He was NOT YET the High Priest in the "true Tabernacle", when He died.   How then could He - as High Priest - complete the final atonement for His congregation?  He must complete the 7 days of consecration AFTER He ascended to Heaven.  Those 7 days were completed, and the 8th day was Pentecost.  The outpouring of the Spirit on Pentecost, was the sign that Jesus had been installed as High Priest of Heaven itself.

Jesus "bore" - or carried - our sins.  He will carry them UNTIL the verdict of the heavenly Court transfers those sins to Satan.  Then Satan will "carry" them into the lake of fire.

Jesus - as high priest, will confess over Satan all the sins of His congregation, thus transferring them to Satan.  Then Jesus - as the "fit man", will banish Satan to the "uninhabited place".

Even Mrs White said that the Fall types must be fulfilled "in like manner" to the Spring types.

Passover was fulfilled in ONE DAY.

Feast of Firstfruits was fulfilled on ONE DAY.

Pentecost was fulfilled on ONE DAY.

The Fall "appointed times" : Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and The Feast of the 8th Day (which came just after Tabernacles) were all ONE DAY appointed times

Feast of Unleavened Bread (Spring) was 7 Days and Tabernacles (Fall) was 7 days.

I just don't see how I can believe that a ONE DAY appointed time (The DAY of Atonement), can be stretched out to cover 175 years plus.  To me - that just doesn't FIT.

Are you trying to say that if the Period of Atonement began in 1844 then we should be fasting and doing no work as  commanded for the earthly day of atonement? If so, you are requiring something that not even those  who think the heavenly Day of Atonement is just one literal day will be able to follow In your scenario one will not know when the Heavenly Day of Atonement occurs, much less fast  without labor on that day. You take the parallel between the two types too far.

Col Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

During this period of atonement we are now in, there should be a spiritual fasting  and afflicting of soul.

Isa 58:5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? [is it] to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?  58:6 [Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 58:7 [Is it] not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward
.

And no I do not treat the cermonial Day  of Atonement as a day of  prayer, fasting and rest from all labor. As Col 2:16 says, the feast days were shadows of things to come,  John labels all the old feast days as "feasts of the Jews', and I treat them as such.

Heb 9:9           Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; [Which stood] only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed [on them] until the time of reformation

Col Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

Concerning this verse, I believe that Paul was telling the people NOT let the "circumcision" party judge them, for not going up to Jerusalem for the Feasts to offer "meat offerings" or "drink offerings".

I follow the Jewish calendar.  I try to remember what the Lord's "appointed times" taught and prophesied.  I fully realize that we cannot "know" which day is the Day of Atonement - in the present calendar, because there is no priesthood to start the "year".  I'm saying that I use the Jewish calendar for my focused meditation on different themes.

I won't judge you - if you don't judge me.

I believe that the fulfillment of the Day of Atonement will be the DAY that the redeemed will be resurrected and translated to Heaven.  It will be the DAY that the wicked are "cut off".  We will certainly KNOW what day it is, when these things happen.  And it's likely we won't have much to eat, in the time period of persecution leading up to that DAY - so we will have been fasting.

Since no one lives where death is, I guess no one inhabits death's place.  And Jesus offered up Himself to die, so He was the "fit man" Who led Himself to death.  At Yom Kippur,  only the High Priest [avrciereu,j (archiereus)] is authorized to minister, not ordinary priests [i`ereu,j hiereus].  Jesus acted in the capacity of the High Priest when He offered up Himself.  Heb 8:4 says Jesus cannot be an ordinary priest. 8th day:Living without One who makes atonement for us.  That ROLE - of making atonement, was only ONE was the roles of a priest.  So we are here focused upon that ROLE.

The word "atonement" means "reconciliation".  Jesus makes reconciliation for us.  We are reconciled to God, thru Him (when we see His love for us).

"Atonement" can mean different things.  In the context of the GC quote, it's not talking about this.

8th day: When we come to Jesus, and Jesus then makes atonement for us, are we 100% reconciled to God, at that moment??  I say, "yes".

I would say "no".

8th day: We WANT to serve Him.  We love Him.  Our hearts are longing for Him.  Does that mean we are literally "changed" in that moment so that we never "sin" again, in thought or action.  No.  Everyone here would agree that we continue to strive against temptations.

I remember the three steps in the salvation process.  Justification - Sanctification - Glorification

When one is justified by faith in Jesus - one is at that moment standing in a "saved" condition.  Right?  If he were to die 1 minute later, he would be resurrected to everlasting life.

Sanctification is the process by which Jesus heals and restores the human being to the likeness of Himself - to the likeness of His character.

Must one COMPLETE the sanctification process, in order to be "saved"?  I say, "No!"

I don't think anyone is suggesting this.

8th day:Must all of those living on the earth just before Jesus returns COMPLETE their sanctification process, in order to be "saved"?  Again, "No!"

Will Jesus say, "Times up. You're not perfect yet, so you're lost".  I don't believe that.

I don't know anyone here who does.

Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.

But that does mean I believe everyone living at the end, MUST reach character perfection, in order not to LOOSE salvation.

Going along with this idea, what is it which would bring about thousands of Job-type people?  I believe it is the gospel, and when I say "the gospel" I mean a gospel chocked full of powerful concepts regarding the trugh of God's character.  Imagine such a gospel is being preached in a clear way, with some concpets we've already started to get, and others we haven't gotten yet, but which present the truth about God in a powerful and marevelous heart-changing way.  What I picture is that this gospel message splits the worled into two groups; those who believe the message, and those who don't.  *All* of those who believe the message will be Job-type people, and all those who reject the Holy Spirit will by Job-persecutor-type people.

I like the idea you expressed about "safe to save."  I also think there may be truths about God's character which are involved in the "why" as well (e.g. "why Jesus waits").

Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.

DIFFERENT events happened on Passover, on Firstfruits, on Pentecost.  You cannot combine all of these days into ONE day, and say they were all fulfilled at the same time.

Not text says Satan is the "sin offering" in Lev 16 -- the "Sin offering" is always "The Lord's goat" never the scapegoat.

So then standing without a mediator during the 7 last plagues - as Rev 15:8 points out.

Ellen White also agrees with that.

It is a good question - but to discuss it with substance we must first see exactly what it is that we are talking about.

so then

=====================================================

Early Writings:

I also saw that many do not realize what they must be in order to live in the sight of the Lord without a high priest in the sanctuary through the time of trouble. Those who receive the seal of the living God and are protected in the time of trouble must reflect the image of Jesus fully.{EW 71.1}

I saw that many were neglecting the preparation so needful and were looking to the time of “refreshing” and the “latter rain” to fit them to stand in the day of the Lord and to live in His sight. Oh, how many I saw in the time of trouble without a shelter! They had neglected the needful preparation; therefore they could not receive the refreshing that all must have to fit them to live in the sight of a holy God. Those who refuse to be hewed by the prophets and fail to purify their souls in obeying the whole truth, and who are willing to believe that their condition is far better than it really is, will come up to the time of the falling of the plagues, and then see that they needed to be hewed and squared for the building. But there will be no time then to do it and no Mediator to plead their cause before the Father. Before this time the awfully solemn declaration has gone forth, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” I saw that none could share the “refreshing” unless they obtain the victory over every besetment, over pride, selfishness, love of the world, and over every wrong word and action. We should, therefore, be drawing nearer and nearer to the Lord and be earnestly seeking that preparation necessary to enable us to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord. Let all remember that God is holy and that none but holy beings can ever dwell in His presence.{EW 71.2}

As Jesus moved out of the most holy place, I heard the tinkling of the bells upon His garment; and as He left, a cloud of darkness covered the inhabitants of the earth. There was then no mediator between guilty man and an offended God. While Jesus had been standing between God and guilty man, a restraint was upon the people; but when He stepped out from between man and the Father, the restraint was removed and Satan had entire control of the finally impenitent. It was impossible for the plagues to be poured out while Jesus officiated in the sanctuary; but as His work there is finished, and His intercession closes, there is nothing to stay the wrath of God, and it breaks with fury upon the shelterless head of the guilty sinner, who has slighted salvation and hated reproof. In that fearful time, after the close of Jesus’ mediation, the saints were living in the sight of a holy God without an intercessor. Every case was decided, every jewel numbered. Jesus tarried a moment in the outer apartment of the heavenly sanctuary, and the sins which had been confessed while He was in the most holy place were placed upon Satan, the originator of sin, who must suffer their punishment. {EW 280.2}

==============================================

So then it is true for all mankind that there is no more atoning sacrifice - no blood to cover sins after that point.

But for the saints we have the same fellowship with God - the same "no longer I who live but Christ that lives in me" as before. Yet there is no more sacrifice for sin.

That is a very "different" kind of "Close of Probation" than one might experience by simply being in a fatal car crash.

And the one who accepts Christ today - then dies tonight has the offer of forgiveness of sin right up until the last - -- this is not true of those that live through the time of the 7 last plagues.

I did NOT SAY that Jesus would become High Priest at the Day of Atonement.  I said that He would serve as the High Priest - at the coming Day of Atonement.  I believe that Jesus IS NOW serving as High Priest, and has been serving thus since the Pentecost that followed his resurrection.

It is your opinion, based upon your interpretation of Daniel 8 and 9, that Jesus entered the Most Holy Place of Heaven in 1844.  I disagree - based upon MY interpretation of those Scriptures.

Bob,

Your EGW quote has Jesus in the WRONG CLOTHING for the MHP on the Day of Atonement.

"As Jesus moved out of the most holy place, I heard the tinkling of the bells upon His garment;"

The blue ephod with bells and pomegranates, the golden miter, the breastplate with precious stones WAS NOT WORN on the Day of Atonement, when the HP entered the MHP.

The prescribed clothing for entry into the Tabernacle ON THAT DAY was 5 pieces of plain white linen.  See Leviticus 16.

The verse you are referring to is precisely what triggered the issue.  Yes, I understand it differently from the way you understand it and the reason for that is because there are other verses in the Bible that EXPLICITLY say Jesus is the sin-bearer. I have provided those verses in earlier posts. That is why I was asking you for even just one other single verse that hints Satan is, or will be, sin-bearer.  I think we both agree that Scriptures need to be explained by other Scriptures.

You guys need to define your terms.  Specifically "sin-bearer".  You're talking past each other.

Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
