It would be very appropriate for them to stand for "No Longer Pertinent" if you are speaking of the old, tired, long-since debunked accusations that the SDA church was using NLP materials in their seminars on reclaiming missing members! Can't answer about that as I have no knowledge of it whatsoever. I can state with absolute certainty that my introduction to the occult (or rather, principles derived therefrom) took place at the hands of a college president teaching a presumably "religion" class at the SDA college I attended in the fall of 1981. I can tell you the whole story if anyone is interested in hearing it. Not that anyone gives a %&%#*&^ about it now of course ... I was hoodwinked at one point many years ago into telling the story on videotape for some detractor type looking to build a conspiracy case about Jesuit infiltration or somesuch nonsense. He was so eager to exploit my story for his purposes (didn't realise that at the time of course), and because like a typical naive little victim I was so hungry to have just ANYONE listen to and take my story seriously, I ended up basically letting myself be exploited by him. I tried to stop it later and withdraw my permission to distribute it but it was too late, he'd already made his stupid tapes and sent them all over the place. No doubt it's still floating around out there somewhere. Think his name was Marcussen? but I could be confusing him with someone else, it was something about "catholic charismatic attack on the church" and it was like 12 years go or something. I tried to remain as ignorant as possible of all those ridiculous conspiracy flaps and denominational infightings as possible. The Historicals (Hystericals) give me a headache, and most of them couldn't spell 1888 if it was tied to their nose with a wooden spoon ... Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Nicodema Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Quote: The attitude has prevailed throughout history.. SHUT UP GOD! SHUT UP PROPHETS! WHAT CAN WE DO TO SHUT GOD, JESUS AND THE PROPHETS UP??? HMMM..THEY KILLED THEM..AND HID AND OR DESTROYED THE WORDS How do you shut up God?? Oh wait wait dont tell me, I know the answer to this one. You come together as "the body", abuse the power entrusted to you in Matthew 16:19 and 18:18, and use it to inflict torment upon the one speaking God's words in ways that are blatantly evil and originate in hell but cannot be proven because any way they could think of to explain it would be laughed off as ludicrous or sneered at as some sort of mental delusion. Then you bind up the prophet, make them stumble and fall by your continual torment and abuse toward them (which only works of course if they are True and their Conscience is tender and sensitive and therefore they feel duty bound to examine/condemn/tear apart themselves rather than YOU in the face of all this evil) and then once you've got them where you want them you condemn them and hand them over to Satan, consenting in their place for them to be taken over, dragged off to hell and destroyed. From there on, their mind will break down sufficiently to do your dirty work for you, and no matter what they try to do to escape or where they end up from there, they will never be able to be what they once were becoming or what God intended for them to be when He called them. VOILA~! Mission accomplished. Oh and don't forget the icing for this little poison cake: it's ALL THEIR FAULT because they supposedly had "spiritual pride" for recognizing what God had called them to and it's all THEIR FAULT for NOT "FORGIVING" you because obviously if they had they would not still be in pain ... Poor soul, she was easily hoodwinked during her later years and would have given a donation to some so-called SDA who might have proclaimed that the Catholic church was infiltrating our college. Sounds like something she would have been vulnerable to. I looked at one of his circular letters once, and could tell he was an offshoot. Radical and unbalanced, it seemed to me. Guest Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Ok...just got back from hearing a sermon with some decent scripture exposure..... Had to go to THE BAPTIST CHURCH..to accomplish it but that's the way it goes ... Exegesis on the first 15 verses of Rom 10...with a lot thrown in and even a humorous/fun time listening as well. Some pastors are just taught well at some places. SDA??? Daniel,Revelation, eschatology, paranoia, shallow soteriology, Laodicea bashing....NFDMTTS... Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted October 10, 2004 Moderators Posted October 10, 2004 ...and I guess one last thing on this topic: Do you believe teachers are born or made? I think it's a bit of both, but that there are definitely born non-teachers... And I believe that it's possible that the way we think about and see the pastoral ministry these days tends to select people whose gifts (natural and spiritual) are not in the field of teaching. I just bring this up because JimBob's contention is that they are taught badly, with the implication that if they were taught better they'd teach better - but the problem (to the extent it's real) might be partly at the selection stage too... And yes, I believe God gives people a vocation, but I'm not sure about the ways that overlaps with their own choices and with the selection processes at our colleges. Quote Truth is important
Guest Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Bravus, Thanks for the input on your pastor's sermon.. It is nice to hear that at least one SDA pastor is not reluctant to use scripture in the sermon. I just love to hear when a pastor plugs a worldly book and then fails to plug the bible...by ignoring the use of it. Mark 8:38 Quote
Guest Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 JimBob I was in Palm Springs over the Sabbath a few years ago, so I attended the PS Church for SS School & church. When we split for class I went into the pastors class in his office, I should have left immediately after I discovered that the Quarterly was not under consideration but a James Dobson book. A large books shelf with EVERY SOP BOOK was there near my seat in a room with about 20 others. I should have grabbed one of those new books that had never been cracked open just to enjoy the popping sound a new book makes, but I passed on that pleasure & just endured to ooss & awss until sermon time. The sermon title was “God drives a Mercedes”! And speaking of cars, [my new truck was less than a two years old] when it came time to leave, my truck felt so inferior it refused to start among all of that other fine, sleek “horses” under their hoods. ------------ But if I lived there and attended every Sabbath, maybe I too could be repeating the words "Whatever the mind can believe, it can acheive" that Satan inserted in SDA "help" literature. It is "help" alright, just laying blacktop [in the California desert] in paving the highway to destruction. Quote
Guest Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Jude "12": These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water , carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Yeah..there is a song ..something like .."They say it never rains in Southern California.." God drives a Mercedes????? I was told that that Jesus wants us all in one Accord (Honda).. not in some high priced Mercedes. Just like I told the GC ministerial staff..... He was teaching us 1. Oneness 2. Joy I mentioned to him We get closer to unity/harmony with God...this way John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." Most of the CLERGY are pathetic...the leaders have NO VISION. Quote
Guest Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Also..makes me think... I wonder how many SDA clergy are like the usual SDA laymen..who doesn't even look at their SS lesson. Quote

(Could it be that you yourself are 'paving your own way to destruction'??) The Palm Springs church has a very active membership, very much involved in the life of the city during the weekdays, having an active women's ministry which meets regularly every week, conducting several evangelistic series in the sanctuary itself [it has a great location for attracting the public], and the pastor brings good food for thought in the sermon every Sabbath. I've actually heard that very sermon you mentioned (I seem to recall that it's not called GOD DRIVES a Mercedes, but rather something about Do YOU Drive a Mercedes? or some similar title*) because a tape of that sermon was included in the visitor's package given out to all the visitors on one of the times I last visited. That church is extremely popular with many of my friends who are members there. I enjoy good discussions, pro and con, just as much as the next person, but your tone here seems to imply that you're sour on the whole world. Because now you've gone to criticizing something that I happen to know first-hand. And I couldn't agree less. ================ * But the title did not actually refer to what kind of car we each drive. It was just an illustration used in the sermon. He was not preaching about your choice of automobile! Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Nicodema Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Quote: I looked at one of his circular letters once, and could tell he was an offshoot. Radical and unbalanced, it seemed to me. Yeah, he was a nutball. I didn't realize it at the time I granted him the 'interview' though. I thought he was just someone who was trying to put a stop to problems in the church, and I certainly regarded this particular thing to be a problem and didn't want to see anyone else have to go through what I went through. When I looked at one of his tapes later and found out what kind of a nutcase he was, like I said, I tried to put a stop to the whole thing, but by then it was too late. So now I get the added distinction of having what happened to me be part of some nutcase's collection of hysterical blather -- just wonderful. Can we say re-abuse the victim here? Where in the bible does anyone get the authorization to separate men and women from receiving worship? I will answer that. Nowhere in the bible is this found, this only comes from the "Promise Keepers" bogus instruction where the men separate off into "cell groups" and talk about their wedding night and to break down any barriers that should be erected between husband & wife. Tell me what good could possible come from a all women’s meeting that could not be accomplished in a prayer meeting on Wednesday night? I remember reading of another lady clothed in white apparel that went shopping with out her husband and got in all kinds of trouble. Quote
darlene Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 We had some really wonderful, God filled sermons this weekend. They most assuredly fed the soul! Our Single Adult Ministries weekend theme was "See Him Clearly" and I had invited Pastor Ken Naidoo, who recently moved to Canada from South Africa, to be our speaker. We were so blessed to have him. He used a lot of scriptures to show God's character and used several Bible personalities and yes, he also used many stories. His presentations were very firey and earnest. A real man of God and used by God to reach our hearts. If I were to critque him or his sermons and pulled them all apart I'd have to be crazy! To know that God is our healer, our support, always there for us and that we in response give Him our love and allegience is most reassuring. One day soon He will return to take us to our Heavenly home to live with Him forever. I believe these sermons were God filled and God inspired. Quote

If the answer to the above could be a positive reply, could one or more of Pastor Ken Naidoo’s sermons be recorded so anyone could listen online one or more of his sermons? FF Quote

Felix Florimon Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 A good preacher always generates enthusiasm for being heard again and again. Moreover, I did some online research and I found out a site claimming that anyone with a computer and an internet connection could do it. I feel that the sermon would have to be on a CD. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted October 16, 2004 Moderators Posted October 16, 2004 It can be done. However, I am not certain that CA has the bandwidth available for us to do so. Folks, bandwidth takes money. Quote Gregory
Beryl Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 Ed, the letters to the seven churches applied to the churches at their time AS WELL AS being applicable to us in the end time. Just the same as admonition given to the children of Israel applied to them when it was given, AS WELL AS to us today. 1 Corinthians 10:11, "These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come." The same principle applies to the 7 churches. God bless, Beryl Quote "Grace is God doing for us, in us and through us that which He requires of us but which is impossible for us to do in or for ourselves." But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Cor. 12:9.
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted October 16, 2004 Moderators Posted October 16, 2004 Today (October 16, 2004) I attended a church service where Dick Duerksen preached. I do not have any official figures in regard to the attendence. I would sugget 1,200 or more. But, for accuracy, let us say at least 1,000 people attended. Dick probably violated the preaching mores of some of the people posting here in CA. He did not use a lot of Scripture. He told stories. But, you know what, he kept the attention of 1,000, or more, people. His stories were personal. They came from his life experiences. And, he proclaimed the Great and marvelous deeds of the Lord God Almighty (see Rev. 15:3). Was it a blessing to be there? Yes. Did he fill a spiritual need? Yes. To those who criticize our preaching, I say: "Tell us how/when your proclaim the great and marvelous deeds of the Lord God Almighty. We seldom see such from you in this forum. Quote Gregory
Guest Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 Greg, 1.Did he ever invite the 1000 people to open their bible? If so..to just the one verse Rev 15:3? 2. What was the story theme that you remember the most? 3. What need was filled? 4. How long did he preach for? God's marvelous works are continually being revealed by space telescopes and electron microscopes...by the Holy Spirit quickening complacent , apathetic, passive, indifferent people by the power of His written word...when and if it gets heard. I actually was able to hear a fairly competent sermon on several verses of Luke this sabbath.. I am impresses by the "just and true are your ways" of the verse in Rev 15:3 In sabbath school we explored about 30 verses..and not in a superficial shallow manner. BTW..I did read one graphic, gruesome, inspiring story of a martyr in early American history. Quote

The word "ends" is NOT ages. Heaven always has a very good reason for every thing in print. When God the Father speaks from heaven, [to deliver & resurrect every faithful person since 1844] that's at the begining of the 7th Trumpet/Plague, that will be one [ONE]of the "ends of the world" =========== When Jesus returns 45 days later to raised the righeous dead from day one and destroy all the living wicked, that will be ANOTHER "ends of the world". ============= After the 1000 years in heaven and the saint & the Holy City comes down to VIEW this earth being burnt up, which will be ANOTHER "ends of the world". ======================== About those 7 churches of Revelation 2 & 3 being periods of times? That never was bible truth, this is sunday keepers theology from 5 generations back.!!! No, these 7 churches are 7 different CONDITIONS that God's professed people have as a option of being in at any time.
