For example, the 4 volumes of the 1888 Materials is another. It's standard to quote something she wrote in those volumes as something like "1888 Mat. 270" as opposed to "Manuscript 13, 1889" or something like that. Woody Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 The difference is ... she wrote it in those other places. She didn't write it in the Bible Commentary. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

We are accepted through Christ’s merits alone; and the acts of mercy, the deeds of love, which we perform, are the fruits of faith; and they become a blessing to us; for men are to be rewarded according to their works. It is the fragrance of the merit of Christ that makes our good works acceptable to God, and it is grace that enables us to do the works for which He rewards us. Our works, in and of themselves have no merit. When we have done all that it is possible for us to do, we are to count ourselves as unprofitable servants. Luke 17:10. We deserve no thanks from God. Robert Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Yes we sinned in the past. But now we do not need to sin. Okay...then live Christ's life...a life with no thought of self....No selfishness...no self-seeking...totally empty of all pride in all its forms. BTW, Paul goes beyond what you say....He states that "all have sinned" AND "fall short of the glory of God" (His agape love) Romans 3:23 Paul believed in growth, but he did not teach this perfectionistic heresy that is being presented here on CA. That's what the Judaizers taught.... Quote
Robert Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Everything that suggests any kind of obedience to God, is not legalism. Gal 3:10 All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." 11 Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The just by faith will live." 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The man who does these things will by them live." Quote
Robert Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 The faith that saves IS: FAITH THAT WORKS!!! Right, faith in Christ saves + nothing....If the faith is genuine works of faith will be seen, not works of the law.... Abraham stood justified because his faith was real. How so? He was willing to murder Issac because he believed God would have to raise him since Issac was the promised child. And Rahab's faith, who was at that time a prostitute, worked because she lied about the spies and put herself in danger....That's a faith that works.... Quote

Robert Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Faith works for us indeed. It saves us. It makes Christ just in justifying us in Himself. Christ isn't looking for perfection...He is looking for faith in Him! So it is very possible to sin according to the letter of the law, yet be accounted faithful in doing so. Again, if you look at the context of James both Abraham and Rahab sinned because they broke the law. It is sin to murder...it is sin to lie....Yet these works proved their faith in God and in the judgment Christ will use these works to prove not their righteousness, but their faith. Quote

If I leave my neighbor's wife alone, is that a work of faith or work of the law? When I return my tithe, is that a work of faith or work of the law? Robert Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 "Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws." Show me, in the book of Genesis, what laws Abraham kept. I know that Abraham obeyed God concerning circumcision...but you'll have a hard time proving these references were pointing to the moral law. I've looked the whole chapter over and couldn't find any link....You try.... Quote
Guest Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Gen 26:5 Because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Looks like Abraham might have done wrong in your book. It says he kept the commandments. Quote
Robert Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 If I give food to the hungry, is this a work of faith or work of the law? What's your motive? Why are you doing it? Do you expect everyone to do what you do also? Quote
