The Nile River runs through which of the following countries?

Egypt for sure!!

Answer: The Nile River is generally regarded as the longest river in the world. The Nile River is perhaps one of the most famous international rivers because of its role in the history of Egypt. Although it is generally associated with Egypt, only 22% of the Nile’s course runs through Egypt. Flowing northward through the tropical climate of eastern Africa and into the Mediterranean Sea, the river passes through 11 countries: Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt.

Who was once married to Britney Spears?

Answer: In January 2004, Britney Spears married her childhood friend Jason Alexander (no, not the guy who played George Costanza) at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. It wasn't exactly a dream wedding. At the ceremony, Spears forsook traditional garb in favor of jeans and a baseball cap, and she was walked down the aisle by the hotel bellman. Her groom wore a casual shirt. The marriage was annulled 55 hours later, following a petition to the court that stated that Spears "lacked understanding of her actions".

Why Was Nelson Mandela Imprisoned?

In 1944 Nelson Mandela became a member of the African National Congress (ANC) who campaigned to end apartheid; he also formed Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), which was the military wing of the group.

In 1956 Nelson Mandela was accused of treason along with 156 other anti-apartheid protesters. After a four year trial, all of the accused were acquitted. Within a year, Mandela was arrested again, this time accused of inciting workers' strikes and leaving the country without permission. He was found guilty and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.

In 1963, while in prison, the police uncovered evidence of Mandela's links to MK. Mandela and other prominent anti-apartheid protesters were brought to trial for attempting to overthrow the government by sabotage. They were all found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

How Did Mandela Survive All Those Years in Prison Given What He Went Through?

Mandela held two specific beliefs that helped him survive all of the deprivations he experienced in the prison. One was that people needed to form a community to move forward, and he created a community with his fellow prisoners, talking to each other and helping each other learn. The other belief was that the guards were basically just doing a job and that they didn't hate him personally -- so he didn't hate them personally. This detachment was key to Mandela's continued calm.

Where Was Nelson Mandela Imprisoned?

Nelson Mandela was held in four different prisons. He was sent to Pretoria Local Prison in 1962, he was transferred to Robben Island Prison on the 27th of May 1963 where he spent 16 days before being moved back to Pretoria Local Prison to await trial for sabotage.

On the 13th of June 1964, after he was found guilty of sabotage, he was sent to Robben Island where he spent 18 years. When he arrived at Robben Island the first thing he was told by the warden was "This is the Island. This is where you will die."

But he survived his time on the Island and on the 31st of March 1982 he was transferred to Pollsmoor Prison where he stayed until the 7th of December 1988, he was then transferred to a Villa at Victor Verster Prison where he stayed until his release in 1990.

How Was Nelson Mandela Released From Prison?

During the 1980s, a number of prisoners were offered release from prison by President Botha. The offers for release were made subject to certain conditions. When Nelson Mandela was offered his release he refused because he was not willing to accept the conditions that were attached to it.

In 1990, President Botha resigned and was succeeded by President De Klerk. De Klerk legalized the ANC and decided to release all prisoners linked to the ANC without any conditions, he then met with Mandela to arrange his release.

He originally offered to release Mandela immediately but Mandela refused, wanting to stay in for a further 10 days so that the ANC could prepare for his release. He also wanted Mandela's release to take place at Johannesburg airport but again Mandela refused and wanted to be released at the Prison gates. In the end they came to an arrangement and Nelson Mandela was released to a worldwide audience at the gates of Victor Versta Prison.

Where did Red Bull energy drink originate?

Answer: Red Bull is an energy drink created in 1987 with roots originating in Thailand. In 1976, Chaleo Yoovidhya introduced a drink called Krating Daeng in Thailand, which means "red gaur" in English. In 1982, Dietrich Mateschitz traveled to Thailand and met Chaleo and discovered that Krating Daeng helped cure his jet lag. The two men co-founded Red Bull GmbH and turned it into an international brand. In 2008, Forbes magazine listed both Chaleo and Mateschitz as the 250th richest people in the world with an estimated net worth of US $4 billion.

Which man was born on the same exact day as Abraham Lincoln?

Answer: How's this for a coincidence? Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin were born on the same day, February 12, 1809. Lincoln and Darwin share similarities beyond their birthday and epic beards. Both lost their mothers at a young age: Darwin at 8 and Lincoln at 9. One was born in a log cabin in Kentucky to poor parents, the other in a country estate to a wealthy British family. The two never met. But they both changed the most basic ways that people viewed human existence and helped bring about a new era in the history of human thought.

How Old Was Lincoln When He Moved to Illinois?

Lincoln is so closely associated with Illinois that it may come as a surprise to many to learn that he didn't move to that state until he was 21. With his parents, Thomas and Nancy Lincoln, and older sister Sarah, young Abraham lived in Kentucky until 1816 when the family moved across the Ohio River to a farm in Indiana. In 1812, while the family was living on Knob Creek Farm in Kentucky, Lincoln's mother gave birth to Abraham's younger brother, Thomas Jr., who died shortly after birth.

When Lincoln was only 9 years old, his mother Nancy died of milk sickness, which is actually a form of poisoning caused by drinking the untreated milk of cows that have eaten white snakeroot plant. A year later, Thomas Lincoln married Sarah Bush Johnston, who brought three children of her own to the blended family. Lincoln developed a close relationship with his stepmother.

Fearful that a milk sickness epidemic was breaking out along the Ohio River Valley, the Lincoln family in 1830 moved from Indiana to a new home on public land roughly 10 miles west of Decatur, Illinois. A year later, the Lincolns moved again, this time to a homestead in Coles County, Illinois. Shortly after the move, Abraham, now 22 years old, struck out on his own.

When Did Lincoln Establish the Secret Service?

In one of history's many ironies, President Lincoln officially established the Secret Service on April 14, 1865, only hours before he was to be fatally shot at Ford's Theater in the nation's capital. Today, one of the top priorities of the Secret Service is the protection of the president and other high-ranking government officials. However, at the time of its founding, the Secret Service was charged with putting an end to the widespread counterfeiting of currency.

It was to be another 36 years before the Secret Service, a division of the Treasury Department, was given the added responsibility of protecting the president. Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated, but in the intervening years two more American chief executives --James Garfield and William McKinley -- fell victim to assassins, finally compelling Congress to take steps to increase presidential protection.

Is It True That Lincoln's Son Was Saved by an Assassin's Brother?

Only a few months before Lincoln's assassination at the hands of John Wilkes Booth, Robert Todd Lincoln, the president's oldest son, was standing on a train platform in Jersey City, New Jersey, when the surging crowd pushed him off the platform into the open space between the platform and a moving train. Moments before disaster could strike, someone grabbed Robert's coat collar and pulled him to safety. Lincoln's son immediately recognized his rescuer as Edwin Booth, then one of the country's most prominent actors and brother of John Wilkes Booth.

Robert is also coincidentally linked to three presidential assassinations, including that of his father. Although he had been invited to attend the fateful performance at Ford's Theater, Robert declined and stayed instead at the nearby White House. On July 2, 1881, Robert was present at the Baltimore & Potomac railroad station in the nation's capital when President James Garfield was cut down by an assassin's bullet. Roughly 20 years later, Robert was also present at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York, when an assassin fatally wounded President William McKinley.

Who Never Slept in the Lincoln Bedroom?

If you've ever seen the Lincoln Bedroom, you know it's a decadent room, replete with nice furniture and a giant bed that would totally make sense if you yourself were a giant man like Abraham Lincoln. Friends of the first family and campaign donors have slept in this famous bedroom, but most likely Lincoln himself never did. He used it as an office.

Who is the Only President to Have a Patent?

Okay, at this point, we're probably not fooling anyone with how these questions are written. Yes, the only US President to have his own patent is Honest Abe. He invented a device to help steamboats that ran aground. Of course, as with wrestling, this accomplishment was merely a warm-up act. Abraham Lincoln went on to do some other pretty impressive stuff.

What was the original name of the Peanuts comic strip?

Answer: In 1947 Charles Schulz started a cartoon feature called L'il Folks for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. It was a flop, never achieving a permanent spot in the paper. In 1950 he compiled his strips and sold the series to the United Features Syndicate, which changed its name to Peanuts. Peanuts made its first appearance on October 2, 1950, in seven newspapers. It became the most popular and influential comic strip in history with 17,897 strips published in all, making it "arguably the longest story ever told by one human being".

What Served as the Inspiration for Schulz's Comic Book Characters?

At least some of the characters in "Peanuts" were superficially based on real people as well as Snoopy the beagle. Snoopy first appeared in the strip October 4, 1950. This cartoon character was based on a black and white dog called Spike that Schulz had owned as a teenager. The characters of Charlie Brown and the Little Red-Haired Girl were based on people Schulz knew at the art classes he took as a teenager in Minneapolis. At art class, Schulz became involved romantically with a redhead. She apparently rejected him, just as Charlie Brown's adoration of the Little Red-Haired Girl in the comic strip goes unnoticed by her.

Lucy, the overbearing and sometimes mean character, was based on two people, Schulz's mother and wife, Joyce. Lucy began appearing in the comic strip about a year after his marriage to Joyce. Linus was based on Schulz's friend, Linus Maurer, a fellow cartoonist. The character of Franklin was introduced in 1968, following Martin Luther King's assassination. The little yellow bird, Woodstock, was named after the 1969 music festival in New York.

Was the Comic Strip an Immediate Hit With Readers?

"Peanuts" was first published in seven newspapers during its debut in October 1950. In a New York reader cartoon survey, it came in dead last. Eventually, the strip was carried by over 2,600 newspapers worldwide and was read by over 350 million. Merchandising ranged from greeting cards to dolls and clothing. In 1962, Schulz was named the winner of a Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year for his popular comic strip, by the National Cartoonists Society.

Did Schulz Always Want to Be a Cartoonist?

Schulz set his sights on becoming a cartoonist by about age 6. At a young age, he would read the comic strips, along with his father, from four different newspapers. He also liked to watch the Sunday comics rolling off the presses through the window of the St. Paul Pioneer Press building. At age 15, his first drawing was published. It was of his dog. Following his graduation from high school, he submitted cartoons to magazines but was rejected each time. He began working as a cartoonist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press where he introduced Li'l Folks with prototypes of Charlie Brown and his dog, Snoopy. His comic strip was bought by United Feature Syndicate in 1950, where the name of the strip was changed to "Peanuts."

Would There Have Been More Editions of Peanuts?

This edition of Peanuts was already planned to be the final edition of the cartoon, Charles Schulz had stopped drawing the cartoon in November after undergoing abdominal surgery; the final daily edition of the cartoon appeared on the 3rd of January and it simply consisted of Snoopy sat at a typewriter with a note that read:"Dear Friends,I have been fortunate to draw Charlie Brown and his friends for almost fifty years. It has been the fulfilment of my childhood ambition. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to maintain the schedule demanded by a daily comic strip. My family does not wish Peanuts to be continued by anyone else, therefore I am announcing my retirement. I have been grateful over the years for the loyalty of our editors and the wonderful support and love expressed to me by fans of the comic strip. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy...how can I ever forget them..."He had already drawn six strips to be printed in the Sunday newspapers; the final of those was set for Sunday the 13th February coincidentally the day after Charles Schulz passed away.

Answer: Like all adults in the strip Peanuts, Charlie Brown's parents are never seen, but occasionally referenced. Charlie Brown's dad was a barber just like Peanuts' creator, Charles M. Schulz's own father. His mother is a housewife, just like Schulz’s mother. On September 1, 1958, Charlie Brown's father was formally revealed to be a barber (after earlier instances in the strip that linked Charlie Brown to barbers by implication.) Charlie Brown's friends, such as Linus and Shermy, were named after good friends of Schulz, and Peppermint Patty was inspired by one of Schulz's cousins. Schulz devised the character's name when he saw peppermint candies in his house
