I understand that you feel hurt, but no one person should cause you to give up being a follower of Christ.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written, “For Thy sake we are being put to death all day long; We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Notice that EGW practically quotes the above in the following statement:

-TI- Prophets and Kings

-CN- 47

-CT- Joshua and the Angel

-PR- 02

-PG- 588

The tempter stands by to accuse them, as he stood by to resist Joshua. He points to [:"red"]their filthy garments[/], their defective characters. He presents their weakness and folly, their sins of ingratitude, their unlikeness to Christ, which has dishonored their Redeemer. …They profess to obey the law of God; but have they kept its precepts? Have they not been [:"red"]lovers of self [/] more than lovers of God? [:"blue"] Have they not placed their own interests above His service?[/] Have they not loved the things of the world? Look at the sins that have marked their lives. Behold their selfishness, their malice, their hatred of one another….

But while the followers of Christ have sinned, they have not given themselves up to be controlled by the satanic agencies. They have repented of their sins and have sought the Lord in humility and contrition….

Yep, no one can make you leave the church. I am not trying to make you leave Pam, or anyone else. I'm trying to hang on myself.

As for the moderator: are you really a chaplain, or is that some sort of role playing game you do in cyberspace.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

So, what is she saying here? Is it that we shouldn't have anything? Or is it a matter of priority?

Pam RudyWoofs, every time I see a new topic of yours, I shake my head in wonder and think, "How did she come up with that idea?"

Maybe some of us have bad days or dispositions and have a hard time being nice to others, but I like reading your posts. Those who try to kill other's spirits with a river of cold water are probably long-time members of the Church of the Dead, an exclusive club for joy-killers and hard-liners.

You are hereby granted a free, full, no-strings-attached, membership in the First Church of Creative Thinkers. Members of this church may not even go to church, but God is still watching out for them and knows what they really need. The hard-liners don't like this church, maybe because we have too much fun, sometimes.

Those who were once close to Satan but switched allegiance to God will be especially honored in his Kingdom.

She doesn't get in detail, so I'll give you some other quotes. Here's the 1st one:

"In heaven none will think of self, nor seek their own pleasure but all, from pure, genuine love, will seek the happiness of the heavenly beings around them." [2T 132]

Notice that "in heaven" we won't be thinking about what I need...what I can get...you know, me, me, me....In heaven there will be no self-seeking, but rather we will seek the happiness of those around us. And those around us will be living for our happiness.

The church in the book of Acts came very close to this....

Okay...we are not in heaven; we are here on this fallen planet. So...how does our life now compare to our sinless life there in the future?

-PT- The Signs of the Times

-DT- 06-09-81

"Our earthly life [now], however long, honored, or useful it may be, is but childhood, frail, imperfect, and undeveloped. Manhood, with its full, perfect, glorious development, will come, when, freed from the taint of sin [selfishness?], we stand among the redeemed throng. Then [not now] we shall enjoy a life which measures with the life of God, and through everlasting ages we shall go on increasing in wisdom and knowledge."

Very clear, huh?

I hope you mean done with posting for a time and not forsaking Christ? If the latter please remember that in the judgment God won't ask you why you left Christ, but what have you done with My Son?

"He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."

So if I am off on tangent, well, so be it or in other words "never mind". But if I am right never, never give up Christ over how you are treated. Okay?

May I add a bit to the joy of the mayhem? I think Pam Woofs has posed a marvelous question. Challenging & or probing us to provide precise, efficient, convincing answers. Reminding us to never take for granted any knowledge.. Pam's question may lead us to obtain a role model idea of how our infants may be thought of and or molded.

For considered, mentioned joy killers and or hard liners.. I believe that they have brought great enthusiasm and life to this great spiritual fellowship activity.

Thanks for this great thread.

In heaven, there is no reason to think of self because everything that "self" needs - food, clothing, security, are supplied. Everyone is guaranteed a home. Not here. Food doesn't miraculously fall from heaven. Houses do not materialize out of thin air to be in possession of believers. So, let me ask you again. Is it selfish for one to buy a horse so one can get to work faster & come home quicker? Is it selfish for one to work so he/she could buy a house to keep cool in summer & warm in winter?

And on this earth you must think of self or you'll be without, right? Funny, Christ was never self-absorbed with Himself. He lived for others and not Himself. Christ wasn't selfish in the slightest!

“The Saviour lived not to please Himself. [:"red"]In His life there was not trace of selfishness.[/] Though in a world that He himself had created, He claimed no part of it as His home. "Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests," He said; "but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head."

Christ placed you and I first and never Himself. He came to show us love and in so doing fulfilled His Father's law. His life is the fulfillment of the law.

"It will be seen that the glory shining in the face of Jesus is the glory of self-sacrificing love. In the light from Calvary it will be seen that the law of self-renouncing love is the law of life for earth and heaven; that the love which "seeketh not her own" has its source in the heart of God. . . .[AG 45]

You didn't answer my question. On this planet one has to fend for his/her own food & clothing, and you quoted a verse which I presume you presented as approving that activity. Since no one is going to give me a horse/car so I can go to work faster & quicker, and since I & my family need shelter to keep cool in summer & warm in winter, is one selfish working for a horse/car or house?

Did Christ think of Himself or did He live for others? That should answer your question.

In explaining Christ's self-renouncing love, Ellen states: “…There will be no rivalry, no self-seeking, no desire for the highest place. [:"red"]You will have that love which seeks not her own, but another's wealth.”[/] [DA 439]

Christ’s life showed what it means to love one’s neighbor instead of loving one’s self. His life’s ambition was to be the servant of all instead of serving and living for Himself.

Gerry,

Please explain Luke 22:27

Right! However, if you had been a member of the early Christian church you would have not been without. See Acts 4:34

  • "There were no needy persons among them."

Why?

  • "Not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own; but all things were common property to them." Acts 4:32

Now granted, this unity didn't last very long! Why? Because Ananias and Sapphira introduced "self" back into God's selfless system of love being demonstrated through the early Christian believers.

So God's way of prosperity and Lucifer's way are mutually exclusive. In God's system others live for your prosperity (and you for them).

In Lucifer's system "we have turned every one to his own way." [is 53:6] This bent towards self is called iniquity. Instead of living solely for others, we live for ourselves. That makes us sinners even though outwardly we may keep the letter of the law.

I know you have a hard time with this. It's new to you because you have a very high opinion of your law keeping, but keep in mind what the prophet Isaiah stated:

  • For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith Jehovah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. [is 55:8,9]

Yes...the fallen humanity was the same!

No...Christ never, even by a thought, lived for Himself. He, through the Spirit, said no to our bent towards self.

[:"blue"]Nooooooooooo wayyyyyyyyy!!! Because God promised so much more than just food or clothing!!! What father or mother is content to give their son or daughter just enough for bare existence and leave them homeless?

[:"red"]"Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, who shall not receive a hundredfol now in this time - HOUSES and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions - and in the age to come, eternal life." Mk 10:29,30 NKJ. [/]

Soooooooo, per your refusal to answer a direct question, your position then is that it is selfishness to want a horse/car or a house, right? Then per your own definition, Jesus must have been selfish because he had a home before He started His ministry. And during the passion week, He asked His disciples to prepare the Passover in the upper room of a house; and asked them to fetch Him a donkey with its colt to ride on!!! [/]

[:"blue"]Now let's examine your line of reasoning. It's ok for Jesus to go to heaven and prepare mansions/rooms for believers where food is plentiful and where no one will suffer heat or cold, but it is selfishness to want the same things here and now where there is hunger, heat & cold! [/]

[:"blue"]Robert, you apparently feel greater than the Master because at every opportunity you want to tell us that it is selfish to have cars, houses, and lands, but yet you keep hanging on to your possessions!

A servant who is educantionless, homeless, carless, & whatever less he is less of, is practically useless in this day and age. [/]
