Mississippi, July 2012.

I came unexpectedly upon this large house the morning after a fire destroyed it. It seemed surreal because everything appeared peaceful and perfectly normal except for the skeleton of the burned out mansion on the hill overlooking the pasture where horses still stood grazing and the American flag went on waving in the quiet breeze.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Very much deserved John. :) Happy Sabbath to you and yours

Your last picture of the field and stream could be here in Okla. Looks much like a picture I once painted.

Here's another picture of that field. There in Mississippi this body of water is more like a swamp or bog. It was stagnant, with no fresh water running into it.

The Swamp at Louisiana Purchase State Park, Arkansas, July 2012

See: http://www.arkansas.com/things-to-do/history-heritage/la-purchase/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisiana_Purchase_State_Park

Do not worry about crowds here if you should elect to visit; I saw it strictly by chance and I was the only person there at the time and it was very humid.

Picture 3 shows one of the signs along the walkway explaining the history of the Louisiana Purchase.

The Mississippi at Helena, Arkansas, July 2012

Helena is one of the few places in Arkansas to cross the Mississippi by bridge. Until the late 1950s, it was necessary to cross by ferry. Mark Twain thought the Mississippi at Helena was one of the prettiest places along the river.

See interesting article with photos of the bridge by John Weeks III: http://www.johnweeks.com/river_mississippi/pages/lmiss04.html

Monument at Confederate Cemetery, Helena, Arkansas, To Confederate Soldiers Who Fought and Died in the Battles of Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Franklin. Many soldiers buried at the Confederate Cemetery in Helena were killed in the battle for the city, and the second picture shows that the city still sometimes finds the bodies of those soldiers.

William Faulkner in the Town Square, Oxford, Mississippi

He forever sits smoking a pipe in front of the town's City Hall where every fool can do anything they want to to his likeness.

Notice that the sign about the history of the city refers to the fact that Union soldiers under the command of a Union General destroyed Oxford by fire in 1864. Both the Indians and the burning of the town are often referred to in Faulkner's stories.
