doug yowell Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Beaver's Bend, Oklahoma 2012 Beaver's Bend is in the southeastern corner of Oklahoma, about 25 miles north of Broken Bow. I went there almost completely by chance when I saw a sign and decided to check it out. I'm so glad I did. Wonderful place. I wished I could stay but I needed to hurry on to Dallas, so I was at Beaver's Bend only for one afternoon and evening. Looks a lot like NE Oklahoma. Brings back old memories. Quote

Moderators John317 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Moderators Posted August 28, 2012 Looks a lot like NE Oklahoma. Brings back old memories. I've never been to that part of Oklahoma, but I've driven a number of times along I-40 through the central part of the state, and now I've been in the southeast corner of it. I had an uncle who was from Tulsa but he moved out West to California and became a long-time car salesman in Los Angeles. He left Oklahoma in the late 1930s, speaking of "old memories." Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators John317 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Moderators Posted August 28, 2012 You're welcome, Naomi. Thank you for the complement. That last picture-- of the old ranch-style windmill on very flat topography-- actually looks like some places here in California, too, especially the central part of the state. There are also places in eastern Washington, southeastern Oregon, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, and the Dakotas, that look similar. I'd love to go to all those states and spend time photographing in them as well. They all have their unique characteristics and beauty, yet they also have quite a few things in common with each other. Because of our unique history, I find that this is true, too, of the American people themselves. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Moderators John317 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Moderators Posted August 28, 2012 Speaking of common relationships between places and people--- Not long after WWII, Edward Steichen of the Museum of Modern Art put together a famous book of pictures and traveling exhibit ["The Museum of Man"] that attempted to illustrate through pictures how much all the different peoples everywhere in the world have in common with one another. Probably the same kind of thing could be done with photographs of the people of all North America-- Canada, the USA, and Mexico. I'm not denying the significant differences, but we all-- Americans, Canadians and Mexicans-- also do have a lot in common. I'm especially mean the similar problems, goals, histories, and ideals, that should help draw us all closer together. Moderators John317 Posted August 31, 2012 Author Moderators Posted August 31, 2012 The subject is the same as some that I posted in 2008,9: lily flowers and the demonstrations in Denver, but the pictures themselves are different. I recently found a photo card with pictures that I hadn't uploaded before.
