Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2009 Moderators Posted August 17, 2009 Paul makes clear the separation of the gospel (circumsised and uncircumcised)in less than flattering words ("what they were...") Who are those who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ? The only ones Paul names are John, Cephas and James. If this is so, than Paul puts these apostles in the same class as Satan (disguised as an angel of light). It is interesting to note that James is said to have received a vision of an angel of light telling him to lead the Jerusalem assembly. No, Paul is not talking about the genuine apostles here. There's no evidence of that whatsoever. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

I can see why they were leery of Paul, he been after them for awhile and now is on there side. Makes you want to make sure that he's not just trying to sucker them in. We have to remember, too, that Paul's authority as an apostle was equal to the authority of the disciples and apostles. His authority was sometimes questioned and in doubt, especially at first, because he was known as someone who had been a great persecutor of believers, and also because he was taking the gospel to the gentiles, which meant that people heard rumors that he was teaching people contrary to the decision in Acts 15. cf 21: 20, 21. Therefore, it was necessary that Paul defend his apostolic authority against the false teachers and false apostles in the church. For instance, those of the "circumcision," who taught that it was necessary to be a Jew, or be circumcised, before one could experience God's salvation. Some people say there were no witnesses to Paul's conversion but we have the disciple, Ananias, whom the Lord gave a vision in which He told Ananias about Paul's conversion. Acts 9: 10-19. There's no indication that the apostles John, Peter, or James themselves questioned Paul's experience. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Guest Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Christ sought to save the world, not by conformity to it, but by revealing to the world the transforming power of the grace of God to mold and fashion the human character after the likeness of the character of Christ. The grace of Christ is to work a wonderful transformation in the life and character of its receiver; and if we are truly the disciples of Christ, the world will see that divine power has done something for us; for while we are in the world, we shall not be of it. {AG 227} Quote
Guest Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Faith in Christ brings to us infinite power. We may lay hold upon the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. {BEcho, November 12, 1894 par. 9} To abide in Christ means that you shall be a partaker of the divine nature. Humanity lays hold upon divinity, and you have divine power. But if you cling to old habits and practises of self-indulgence, and refuse to carry the burden of souls, you will lose your own soul. You will not value your own soul highly, and you will not carry on a straightforward work. It is the privilege of every believer to purify his soul, that he may have the life that measures with the life of God in the kingdom of glory. This is what we all desire -- to live through the ages of eternity in the kingdom of glory. But we can never do it if we continue to follow our own habits and inclinations. O, that this burden might be rolled upon souls, and that they might realize that if they will be overcomers, they can help others to overcome. {GCB, May 17, 1909 par. 20} Musicman, he got it the same way we are to get it. Guest Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Paul saw that the character of Christ must be understood before men could love Him or view the cross with the eye of faith. Here must begin that study which shall be the science and the song of the redeemed through all eternity. In the light of the cross alone can the true value of the human soul be estimated. {AA 273.1} By the life we live through the grace of Christ, the character is formed. The original loveliness begins to be restored to the soul. The attributes of the character of Christ are imparted, and the image of the Divine begins to shine forth. The faces of men and women who walk and work with God express the peace of heaven. They are surrounded with the atmosphere of heaven. For these souls the kingdom of God has begun. They have Christ's joy, the joy of being a blessing to humanity. They have the honor of being accepted for the Master's use; they are trusted to do His work in His name. {AH 535.2} Quote

And the Lord says, "I will, Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus!" And it is so. It is done according to our faith. Guest Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 There must be a thorough conversion of the soul, that there may be a conversion of the tongue and lips. Then the treasure house of the soul will be full of precious truths, because Christ's character is studied. Then you will be blessed as overseers and shepherds. And when you as shepherds, exemplifying the traits of Christ's character, come before the flock, they will see the importance of having practical religion, practical godliness, not merely the accepting of a form or a theory. {GCB, April 16, 1901 par. 13} Quote
