pnattmbtc Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Here's a nice site on generosity: http://library.generousgiving.org/ Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
Robert Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will wear for clothing?' 33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. All these things refer to food and clothing....Not homes, furniture, nice cars, money in the bank, college degrees etc....You are adding and hence coveting....That's why Paul states, "If we have food and clothing with this be content"! Musicman1228 Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Is tithing manditory? If so do you tithe from generosity or duty? Quote
Guest Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 You are reading things into this verse because you love yourself....It's very easy to see...just look at all your goodies....Now maybe you can see the marked difference between your life of self and Christ's life of selflessness? Robert, unless you live under a bridge it is hypocritical of you to keep repeating this nonsense over and over. (or even once, for that matter) I see no marked difference between my life and yours, except I haven't bought into the babylonian talking points. We both have computers. If you haven't sold everything you have then you should put a plug in it. Quote

(or even once, for that matter) Not at all....I'm not the hypocrite...it is you! Why? You, along with many SDA, insist that the law is binding on the believer. If so start living Christ's life...live His life, which answer all the law.... Quote
Robert Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Is tithing mandatory? Sure, under the old covenant....Under the NC it isn't a condition of heaven....If so you are paying your way in..... Quote
Woody Posted April 10, 2010 Author Posted April 10, 2010 Is tithing manditory? If so do you tithe from generosity or duty? If you don't pay tithe you are stealing from God and are thus in violation of the standards of the church which are all subject to discipline and possible disfellowship. Also .... if you don't pay tithe you are forbidden from being in any church office or responsibility according to the Church Manual and our prophet. :) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. wayfinder Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Robert: check out the patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob) all were well to do. As far as what Matthew recorded chp. 6, what He was saying is, spend your time in study and search for the truth, concerning the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and God will take care of everything else. That would mean, transportation, shelter, food, clothing, etc. Notice that Jesus uses king Solomon as an example, and he was one of the most wealthy person the world has ever known. Quote
Guest Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Amen, Richard..... ....What we have to do is decypher that legend and decide what is probable and what is improbable. I appreciate the amen, but I don't think that deciding what is probable and improbable is a good way to form beliefs or interpret scripture. Quote
Dr. Rich Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Woody wrote, "If you don't pay tithe you are stealing from God and are thus in violation of the standards of the church which are all subject to discipline and possible disfellowship." WHAT? Stealing from God? How so? In my study on this issue, I could not find anywhere that tithe was mandatory unless there was an active Priest Tribe (Levites) who were told that they belonged to God (they could not own any land) so to support them a tithe from the other tribes went to them. Therefore, since the Levites belonged to God, not paying your tithe at that was indeed, stealing from God. Since this has been done away with (Matthew 21:43), so has the command to tithe. If you don't agree, give me scripture to show me it is still required. Thanks. Quote

And I thought that we were discussing the beliefs and standards of the Seventh day Adventist Church and the dictates of the Church Manual. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. But you say, How have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings. 10 Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Woody Posted April 10, 2010 Author Posted April 10, 2010 Our prophet says that Tithe is the "Test of heavenly fellowship" See EV 251 She also states that Faithfulness in tithe paying is a condition to answered prayers. See COL144 Dishonesty in tithing "is registered in the books of heaven as robbery toward Him." CS 77 In the church manual p. 135 Tithe paying is described as a "spiritual exercise in which we should all have a part of. It can't be separated from the message of salvation". Members phkrause Posted April 10, 2010 Members Posted April 10, 2010 To no one in particular. There is a statement in the Bible about being Healthy, Weathly and Wise! My question is does being Wealthy only have to do with having money? I think not. I believe that in some places you could say it means that if we have Christ in our lives, this is what makes us wealthy. Also about tithe, doesn't Jesus challenge us and say to test him, that if we are faithful with our money he will be faithful in returning to us. I don't think that we can ever out give our Lord and Savior. And I believe that Woody has brought up some very good points from EGW. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
SivartM Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I don't think the Bible says "healthy, wealthy, and wise". I think poor Richard said that. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus
doug yowell Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I don't think the Bible says "healthy, wealthy, and wise". I think poor Richard said that. If that's true, SivartM, it should have been posted on the "social justice" thread. Quote

Robert Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, How have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings. Old Covenant command! How do I know this? Gal 3:10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, and do them." Mal 3:8 But you say, 'How are we robbing thee?' In your tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me; the whole nation of you. Quote
