Woody Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Quote: What we have is very sketchy information on Martin's behavior that night. For you,he was black and that is all that counts. Woody Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Quote: Martin sounds like a young man headed for big trouble. Yes. He was using drugs and was a drug abuser. Moderators lazarus Posted April 13, 2012 Moderators Posted April 13, 2012 The whole black racial thing LOL. You sound a 7th grader who says "oh that whole constitution thing". Quote: It is generational bitterness getting worse with each generation. LOL, as America is fighting several wars right now, talk about bitterness and anger and resentment. That's the height of hypocrisy. You're quoting Ps 34? Please. You got it so very wrong. Not bitter, but will not shut up when you are racist. I love you enough to rebuke your racist foolishness and show you a better way. Quote: People think that programs like affirmative action can fix it Affirmative action is not about healing its about opportunity. Who has said AA will fix it? The challenge is that for many white people the mere mention of racism evokes such an emotional reaction. Why do they resent the topic so much? We had a month long Bible study in my church about marriage and divorce. It evoked a lot of emotions. Many people had been hurt and were angry about the marital situations past and present. Many white folks are bitter. Many white folks resent black people. That's the way it is The basic assumptions in your post are out in left field. Moderators lazarus Posted April 13, 2012 Moderators Posted April 13, 2012 The problem IS the lack of empathy and understanding for the struggle of impoverished black people. The conditions and ghettos that exist today are remnants of the segregation era that many, if not the most, were not able to overcome. ::like Rather than Christians on this board trying to understand there is simply an attempt to denigrate. Sad but not sew. In my experience have found that white Christians have been the least understanding and empathetic of all. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Woody Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Quote: The challenge is that for many white people the mere mention of racism is evokes an emotional reaction. Why do they resent the topic so much. And that is because many white people are just plain tired of being oppressed with racism being promoted by many blacks. It just gets old especially when the racism is totally unnecessary. Racism is being promoted by those that have no other solution rather than being racist against whites. This is true. Even though most whites will not say it. But this is the root of the problem. Moderators lazarus Posted April 13, 2012 Moderators Posted April 13, 2012 And that is because many white people are just plain tired of being oppressed with racism being promoted by many blacks. You are saying that white people have now become an oppressed MAJority in America? "We went from being a privileged group to all of a sudden becoming whites, the new victims,'' says Charles Gallagher, a sociologist at La Salle University in Pennsylvania who researches white racial attitudes and was baffled to find that whites see themselves as a minority. "You have this perception out there that whites are no longer in control or the majority. Whites are the new minority group." Call it racial jujitsu: A growing number of white Americans are acting like a racially oppressed majority. They are adopting the language and protest tactics of an embattled minority group, scholars and commentators say. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. CoAspen Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Quote: And that is because many white people are just plain tired of being oppressed with racism being promoted by many blacks. [This] rhetoric is straight out the 'white supremacists' talking points!! Do you even understand what you are saying? If that is what you truly believe....you might want to think about getting out in the real world. Just who are the 'many white people' and who are the 'many black'? Where is the substance to your words, what do you have to back up such statements? It is such statements that you have made above that continue to fuel the fires of racism. Quote: Racism is being promoted by those that have no other solution rather than being racist against whites. If 'most whites' feel the way you say they do, then we have not advanced since the days of the KKK and other such drivel of ideas. That would be very sad and since 'most white' people claim to be Christians, then God is hanging His head in sorrow. But, thankfully, I do not believe your words are truth!!

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted April 13, 2012 Administrators Posted April 13, 2012 Kind of sounds like a "two wrongs make a right" sort of reasoning... So are you saying that since there are other people groups that are oppressed in the world, that we should just leave it be and ignore that which we have within our own reach and ability to change? "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Don't have a clue where you get that idea except an attempt to put words in ones mouth that are simply not there. If you actually read what I have written you will see that I am opposed to ALL racism and ALL oppression. What some here are promoting is that we just consider one brand of racism and that is the oppression raged towards blacks. This is what I am opposed to. I want to stop ALL racism. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted April 13, 2012 Administrators Posted April 13, 2012 All or nothing, then? Look, this is not an exercise in multitasking, covering all the bases at once. We can only do one thing at a time. Recheck the OP. This discussion is quite specific. If you are only interested in the broad topic of the oppression of all people everywhere, go ahead start your own topic on that. Just don't complain about people seeking specific answers to specific questions about specific situations. "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. Woody Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Personally I have the same vision as Dr. Martin Luther King. He was right on when he said we would one day have a 'color blind society'. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted April 13, 2012 Administrators Posted April 13, 2012 The point is, that day has not yet arrived. So how do we get there? Woody Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 We start by looking at the total picture . Not just the black part. For some reason people have allowed the blacks to lay claim to the issue of RACISM. But racism is a far more encompassing issue than just blacks. May we be one so that the world may be won. Moderators lazarus Posted April 13, 2012 Moderators Posted April 13, 2012 [This] rhetoric is straight out the 'white supremacists' talking points!! Do you even understand what you are saying? If that is what you truly believe....you might want to think about getting out in the real world. We have reached an interesting point in the conversation. Some random thoughts. To the white racist equality will feel the same as oppression because his/her natural disposition is to feel/act superior. They expect privilege and do not expect to be challenged or their integrity impugned. When the "inferior" class has as much say, gains power and perhaps can drive the agenda (whatever that may be), the supremacist experiences something brand new. He cannot operate the way he used to, say the things he likes, he cannot discriminate as easily. He concludes that he is a victim of the new system of things. He does not have the freedom he once had. He is oppressed. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities.
