I'm assuming you mean a concealed carry license, or CCL as it's called here. (must be called Concealed Handgun License, in Texas) Anybody who has one of those, has been extensively trained in how to handle a firearm. That's the only way they can get the license.

You of all people should know that, since you work for the agency that regulates it.

One thing we do know is those that conceal and carry illegally are not real concerned about training or registering their guns.

Nor are they fussy who they shoot or whose house they rob or who they attack. And if they want one they will get one

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

Thanks Bonnie, as I too think this is the real problem. Now IF everyone would just be nice and give up their guns, knives, baseball bat, two irons and such, then perhaps we all could pull hair or grab someone's head and smash it into the pavement IF you are bigger than they are--right? Oh, perhaps that is why Colt called his revolvers "Peace Makers"????

]A little different. 600,000 German citizens didn't die successfully trying to reinstate the Jews to full German status.

If the goal was genuinely to free the slaves why Jim Crow? Walter Williams, who conservatives love to quote in these kind of discussions, suggests that Lincoln didn't have the freedom of the slaves as a goal. It was a good byproduct of the war.

During the war, in an 1862 letter to the New York Daily Tribune editor Horace Greeley, Lincoln said, "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and it is not either to save or destroy slavery." A recent article by Baltimore's Loyola College Professor Thomas DiLorenzo titled "The Great Centralizer," in The Independent Review (Fall 1998), cites quotation after quotation of similar northern sentiment about slavery.

Lincoln's intentions, as well as that of many northern politicians, were summarized by Stephen Douglas during the presidential debates. Douglas accused Lincoln of wanting to "impose on the nation a uniformity of local laws and institutions and a moral homogeneity dictated by the central government" that "place at defiance the intentions of the republic's founders." Douglas was right, and Lincoln's vision for our nation has now been accomplished beyond anything he could have possibly dreamed.

.....The only good coming from the War Between the States was the abolition of slavery.

Quote:
I'm sorry I and myriads of white SDA's can't relate.Maybe I have had a different experience than most. What is there for ME to reconcile, someone else's feelings?

Sorry that's Biblical.

"So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, Matthew 5:23

If you feel someone else has an issue with you then you should go and seek a reconciliation with them.

Quote:
If I or someone in my group has been guilty of causing or allowing a wrong then I/we are morally obligated to make it right, but if not what can I help reconcile? This is the dilemna that you put most white's in when you talk about their need to be involved in racial reconciliation particularly if we are cast as part of the problem.

Particularly in the church, I someone or a group says there is a problem then its our duty to address it. The fact that the SDA church has black and white conferences clearly indicates that there is a problem. We cannot deny that. The need for reconciliation is undeniable. IMHO. The problem of racial division exists today particular in our church.

I'm not American but I can see the division that exists in American society and so clearly in the SDA church in America. I work for a white conference and I can see the need for us to "get it together".

AMEN!!That is exactly what reconciliation is all about. "Come now let us reason together, though your racisms be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow."

Even God is willing to talk about it. He didn't do anything wrong either!

Be part of the reconciliation process even thou you are not a racist yourself.

Introduction to Jesus doesn't make it better????

We were not talking about an introduction to Jesus.

To simply tell a victim of abuse, for example, that they need Jesus can make things worse particularly when they are already a practicing dedicated Christian.

Thanks Lazarus, and yes, you are correct on Lincoln's idea of a central Federal system to take away states individual rights. Now we see the ramifactions of what he did. And I agree that Lincoln was not as American as people believe--but then the reason I believe what I do is because I read stuff that others don't want you to read.

It was just after the war that the term "colored people" emerged, and that term was not originally applied to black people, but to those who thought they had been set free but were now a 14th Amendment citizen, thereby exchanging their God given Bill of Rights for privledges. Hence, Freedom was now called liberty (one had to have permission to leave the ship) all because of the 'color of law'. I have a hard time placing the blame on Lincoln as he was just the one being pulled by the strings of those really in charge.

Ok, back to the issue.....

Does owning a car make people do stupic things? NO!

Well, then, you need to meet my brother. He has done so many dumb things when in a car. He frequently goes to a casino and comes home in the :<img src='http://clubadventist.com/forums/uploads/default_wee.gif' alt='wee'>: hours. In order to be able to drive in the SoCal fast lane, he used to carry a dummy cow with a cowboy hat on that he used to put on the passenger side at night. Well, he finally got caught. He doesn't carry that cow anymore. One time he and his family had gone to Mexico and on the way back, a highway patrol tried to stop him for speeding. He kept on driving until finally the cop used his bullhorn to stop him. He finally stopped under an underpass. His excuse for not stopping? It was such a hot SoCal day that he didn't want to cop standing out under the hot son, so he waited until he found the shade of the underpass! And his excuse for speeding? He told the cop that they had just come from Mexico where the speed limits are in kilometers/hr, that he thought the 80 mph he was doing was 80 km/hr which would have been just 50 mph! He's had several speeding tickets. One ticket was dismissed probably because he told the judge, "Judge, did anyone ever tell you are just as pretty as Geraldine Feraro?" And one of those tickets that he just ignored, the sheriff came looking for him!

Actually, since you live in SoCal, Dr. Rich, you better look out for my brother because when the light is green he is likely to stop, and go when the light is red.

>>Lincoln said, "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and it is not either to save or destroy slavery."<<

This was written to Horace Greeley in 1862, some several years after having sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution – which had written therein the right to own slaves (this had been originally written into the Constitution, as it would have been impossible otherwise - to have gained the cooperation of the Southern States in forming the ‘Colonial’ United States).

Ironically, Lincoln at the time of writing the ‘quoted’ sentiments to Horace Greeley – had already composed and written, pre-war, his Emancipation Proclamation. It is doubtless where Lincoln’s grievances lay.

>>A recent article by Baltimore's Loyola College Professor Thomas DiLorenzo titled "The Great Centralizer," in The Independent Review (Fall 1998), cites quotation after quotation of similar northern sentiment about slavery.<<

And, there were the other quotations which actually gave impetus to the Civil War – costing, ultimately, more than 600,000 lives and uncounted wounded either/both physically and psychologically. That does not even begin to address the loss of American progeny! Emancipation was a costly enterprise.

>>Douglas accused Lincoln of wanting to "impose on the nation a uniformity of local laws and institutions and a moral homogeneity dictated by the central government" that "place at defiance the intentions of the republic's founders."<<

During the Douglas – Lincoln debates, Douglas accused Lincoln of being an abolitionist – and judging from the tenor of Lincoln’s debating points he seemed to have been right; however, to be fair, Lincoln argued that Douglas was part of a conspiracy to nationalize slavery.

>>Douglas was right, and Lincoln's vision for our nation has now been accomplished beyond anything he could have possibly dreamed.<<

One certainly assumes a pejorative bias when attributing an opponent, yes?—however, that factoid aside, we seem to verge upon the loss of American Sovereignty and American Liberty – with even the .Org having contributed to the cause for World Govt with their contributions to the World Council of Churches.

Re this loss, you are absolutely correct.

>>.....The only good coming from the War Between the States was the abolition of slavery.<<

Tell that to the Intl Bankers who saw the pre-war paucity of Banks in the Southern States much the same as they’ve seen the potential in China for marketing ‘credit’ and fractional banking.

In building up China as the [potential] enemy of these United States to insure repayment of US debt – they’ve abetted China’s stated goal of the Long March (a march of eighty years and thirty thousand miles) as a march to the Golden Mountain, which is to say – America.

The Chinese have a disquieting idiosyncrasy of thinking long, long term; whereas, America looks to the next quarterly dividend...

Maybe because this has been a topic about the "war on blacks" by white

Whites kill whites",it is not blamed on past sins of blacks,

whites kill black and a bounty is placed and the lives of others are endangered by media giving out false information.Black kills white and the media acknowledges they play down the race card so as not to inflame.

Wow, we've had so much spurious, illogical nonsense posted over a few weeks and now this is race bating. Seriously? It appears that K is simply presenting an alternative view.

What a joke. White people are not the ones making an issue of the color of ones skin. The blacks are. Good Grief.

I'll try to respond to the rest of this post when I have more time but I think you've touched on a really important point that clarifies something you seem to have been skirting around mostly. If someone else has an issue with me for something I don't think I've done then I don't have a problem with submitting myself to try to solve that problem. But it is important for the other party to clearly describe to me what the problem is as they see it, and what they feel is my responsibility has been in creating or continuing the problem. What you've alluded to here is the ongoing perception among one race in one country to believe that another race in that country is responsible for(blaming)their ongoing problems, whether directly or indirectly.IOW, I say I haven't done anything wrong and they say I have.So WHAT IS THE PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, and HOW CAN I BE PART OF THE SOLUTION if I don't see how I've done anything wrong (back to the OP)?

I think you have broken all records for the use of the word racism on a forum. Single-handedly you have enabled all Caucasians in North America to catch up with African-American in terms of raising the issue of race if your statement is halfway true. Perhaps it was not intentional but nevertheless it's an achievement that must not go unnoticed.

Am not sure about others. But I do not remember talking about blacks with my friends or family growing up. When I ended up joining a mostly west Indian church, it seemed talking about whites was always a point in conversation.

Wonder if that is a similar experience for others?

No flaming please.
