Robert Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 "Christ came to teach us how to live." No, that's not the primary reason. Ellen White knows that, you do not. Jesus primarily came to save humanity from under the curse of the law. It's called the gospel - perhaps something foreign to you? Quote
Robert Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 In short, man must overcome as Christ overcame. Christ was a perfect overcomer; and we must be perfect, wanting nothing, without spot or blemish." {BEcho, January 1, 1893 par. 3} Well, that's nice Ellen, but she contradicts herself in the following: The Signs of the Times/06-09-81 Our earthly life (according to Ellen White it must be perfect), however long, honored, or useful it may be, is but childhood, frail, imperfect, and undeveloped. Manhood, with its full, perfect, glorious development, will come (future tense - when?), when, freed from the taint of sin (our bent to self), we stand among the redeemed throng. Then (not now in our earthly life) we shall enjoy a life which measures with the life of God, and through everlasting ages we shall go on increasing in wisdom and knowledge. Quote
Gibs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Robert, EGW didn't say Christ's primary purpose was to show man how to live but invited us, being one of His purposees. Now for you to say I do not, you are so far off base, you can't even find it. Certainly she and I are well onto the fact His mission was to save mankind from sin all who would come and take up the way He laid. But,- He also knew few would! She also made it clear in many quotes we are only to be perfect in this our sphere as He expects us to be, not as He is in His sphere of Holiness. JoeMo, Very good answer above! And in answer to Cheddar,- - Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. We are living in a polluted mud hole now Robert and there is no comparison to what Heaven in His Kingdom will be. Of course we will not be as we are then in the here and now and our bodies and mind is even corrupted by what surrounds us. But don't you know He takes that into account or don't you believe He is Righteous True and Just. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
JoeMo Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 On the surface, EGW often appears to contradict herself. The more I read her quotes on this site, the more I wonder - Does she sometimes talk about the way things "should be"; and at other times talk about the way "things actually are"? For example, Gibs quoted EGW in post #567676 above as saying "Christ came to teach us how to live. He has invited us to learn of Him to be meek and lowly of heart, that we may find rest unto our souls. We have no excuse for not imitating his life and working his works." Here she talks about how things should be in a theoretically "perfect" world. Later in post #567706, Robert quoted EGW as saying "Our earthly life, however long, honored, or useful it may be, is but childhood, frail, imperfect, and undeveloped. Manhood, with its full, perfect, glorious development, will come when, freed from the taint of sin, we stand among the redeemed throng." Here, she talks about reality - how life really is in this fallen world. I find her a lot more credible and gifted if I read her in this light. Quote
Gibs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 The Reason JoeMo is the difference of the sphere, one is a mud hole and the other is paradise. There is a great difference of how we are likened in a mudhole and how we will be likened in Paradise. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Woody Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 Quote: On the surface, EGW often appears to contradict herself. Ellen White was an extremely poor communicater. ANd we didn't help her out by writing all the compilations. Just like many will take the above sentence out of context and slice and dice it - Ellen White often was referring to one specific reference in many of her writings. Problem is : we will often times never really know what that reference was. But OH YEAH - we have the mind readers that come along and prolaim what she meant. Just like on the forum - people prolcaim what another poster MEANS. And we are not a 150 years removed. This all just demonstrates to me the need to REALLY and I mean REALLY stick with scriptures. JoeMo Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 AMEN, Woody. You will rarely if ever see me quote EGW (I may paraphrase her on occasion). I have an ongoing concern that those among us give EGW's writings the same authority and infallibility as scripture do both her and the denomination a disservice. It makes us look like an offshoot cult rather than a legitimate Christian denomination. Give me the Bible every time! Quote

Gibs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I was giving you a comparison there my friend, and compared to Heaven this is a very dark place and we are at the end and if you find it a great place to live that is great, but for me it is not so good. For an extreme amount of people now CA it is not even a living no more to be had. Many are hurting very bad in this country the USA. The earth is rapidly being destroyed now and is so polluted that potable water is getting very scarce. Look at all the huge dumps around every city and all the pollution of ground water they cause. The air is down more than 30 percent in oxegen than it was 120 yrs ago. What is coming is so bad and it is right at the doors and coming through now that we are told we are not to desire it. Many places this is the case now, Am 5:16 ¶ Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing. Am 5:17 And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD. Am 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. Am 5:19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. Am 5:20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it? Myself being on the internet is about to end as it is something I really can't afford and I know several if they had the means they would be on here and wouldn't be singing love, joy, peace and security for me because they are destitute. If any have it made now with plenty, count your blessings as before too much longer all God's True ones will be made to be poor. Don't you think for a minute the devils don't know who the true ones of Jesus Christ is. Most of us are already on the "red" list, that's the anilhilation list. In the beginning it was the wonderful, wonderful world of God but Satan has it pretty polluted with what the world calls modern tech. which is fast doing the work of polluting it to no end. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
Gibs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 PK, It was good in the beginning but no more, the soils to grow things in are so depleted that the produce is not the best, pushed with chemicals and in the beginning the soil was thick, now there is a few inches of topsoil and subsoil under that. Good old mother earth has taken an awful beating and is very tired and groaning. If God didn't come to save His Own before they are all killed man would soon do away with themselves anyway. He is doing it by his polluting every thing there is. Satan has made this world a miserable home and it is rapidly coming to the majority and you will see it. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 No my glass here on earth is nearly empty and my time here is very short. But it may not be any shorter than most. He may take me through it all and I would be glad to run the course as I know He can enable me for whatever He has for me yet in this life. I live not in fear for I trust in Him fully and He will deliver me, my job is only to remain faithful. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. JoeMo Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 May God bless you with the desires of your heart, Gibs - whatever makes you happy. You sound discouraged today; and Jesus has promised abundant life. I personally think the "abundant" part for His Kingdom in the earth made new. But you can live that joy now out of your faith, brother! Take comfort that your Savior loves you; and you have run a good race and fought a good fight! Blessings JoeMo Quote
LifeHiscost Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I, for one, do not see this earth as a 'mud hole', as God did create life on it even though it is not still perfect. Tis a great place to live!!! Got to stick up for good 'ol mother earth now and then!!! Maybe if one is numbered among the millions who go to bed at night without having access to food or clean water, or perhaps end up as a piece of meat in a trash can, numbered among the 1.2 million annual U.S. abortions, or possibly the 468,000 intentional homocides last year worldwide, it might be somewhat more difficult to join in the joy of our experience on this earth, the devil's playground. God has blessed many with peace and abundance, and we can't always specify what the reasons might be that one doesn't have that grace. There's the story of the super being who promised a wonderful machine that would deliver food, travel, health and freedom. It was accepted readily by those to whom it was offered, but there was one stipulation written in the fine print that was not taken into consideration before the agreement was sealed. The stipulation? The lives of 24,000 individuals, more or less, annually for as long as the machine was made available. The name of the machine? The automobile. And it is tied to we who reside on this earth for as long as time shall last. "Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity."John 12:25 NLT God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Gibs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 No JoeMo there is no discouraagement here with me. He is going to take me through as far as He desires and I will go with Him and He will be with me all the way I know. I was on this earth when it was a lot better place to live than now. We were poor coming out of the depression but we never went hungry and worked hard. Hard work never hurt anyone. I worked in my Dad's coal mine my early yrs. and when I got older I got Dad into timbering and life was easier and out in the sunlight of day. When I left home I became an electric lineman and did most of 35 yrs on the climbers and body belt. Last few had a bucket truck. My first church was way out in the country, a little old SDA church that really was straight and wish there was one today. My grandfather was in the Millerite movement, a very staunch SDA. I long today for that new home in Heaven first and then back to our earth made new and that will be our wonderful paradise. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. JoeMo Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 You are a faithful soul, Gibs, I am in the electric power business myself - spent 20 years in operations; and the past 15 years in Risk Management. Administrators Naomi Posted August 22, 2012 Administrators Posted August 22, 2012 Gibs, I am touched by the beauty in your account of your life and of your faith and trust. None of us know when our last breath will come but to be strong in love for our Lord, and willing to trust in Him and His judgement is a gift which many do not have. Having the peace and faith to know that Quote: He is going to take me through as far as He desires and I will go with Him and He will be with me all the way I know. is a very special blessing. I understand how you feel when you say Quote: I long today for that new home in Heaven first and then back to our earth made new and that will be our wonderful paradise. The point is - God knows the heart. And if it is in the heart to serve God and accept His sacrifice - then He counts that as sufficient. PTL' Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Gibs Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Gail, Naomi, May your faith be strengthened for what is coming on this old world I pray. We must put our full faith and trust in Him. He is our only hope ever and seeing what is upon us we need to be praying continually and our hearts with Him continually or we may fall. Enoch I know walked with Him holding Him in mind and heart every minute and no doubt second. We must also. I pray the same for all who with all the heart and soul love Him formost above all. He not only is our strength and stay, but also is an impervious covering that nothing can come through, He is mightier than all. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
