Well, I did find this:

"Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of the law by carrying them out." [Deuteronomy 27:26]

I guess you got me.... adoh

I gotta believe that you are not going to accuse me of writing that text.

Surely we can agree on that point.

the thing I like about the recent turn of focus on this thread - is that the issue of listening to what God says and then choosing to ignore it - or follow it in real every day life is at the root of the OP - unless someone finds some reference showing that the condemnation of certain activities has another side to it - an affirmation.

And so far - both sides seem to have agreed - such affirmation is not to be found.

Which then brings us to the issue that Robert has brought up as to whether John's statements in 1John 2:3-5 and what Paul said in Romans 8:5-7, and Romans 2:13 are valid.

You would think - that until we come up with at least one person who can find a positive reference for it - to balance out the ones shown on this thread flatly condemning it - we should not be promoting it from the pulpit as a church approved event.

You would think. How bout if we all carried signs with John 3:16 written on them and wore Tim Tebow jerseys?

Isn't this the same as your Romans 2 quote?

Is it your position that when I quote the Bible I become the author of the text?

Well Robert...is it?

Do you agree with the following?

"Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of the law by carrying them out." [Deuteronomy 27:26]

Posted

And with James 2 - "He who is guilty of one is guilty of all".

But of course I am not writing these texts - just accepting them and admitting that they exist.

Bob

Maybe you've forgot how to reply? giggle

"Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of the law by carrying them out." [Deuteronomy 27:26]

Paul quotes the above in the New Testament:

"Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them." (Gal 3:10) (NKJV)

Now read the context of Galatians chapter 3 and you will see Paul's interpretation of Deuteronomy 27:26!

Here it is:

"Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse"

Why?

"for it is written"

What is written? Well, you will see in a moment, but more importantly from where is Paul quoting?

Answer: Deuteronomy 27:26

"Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them."

So Paul is quoting from Deuteronomy 27:26 in Galatians 3:10

What does he state? If you can't keep all the rules written in the book of the law you are cursed! The curse is the 2nd death.

verse 11: "But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for 'the just by faith shall live'".

You see to obtain life by law you must obey the law. That's what Paul is stating in Romans 2:13. In other words it is not enough to merely hear the law read - you must do the law in order to live. That's what verse 12 also states:

verse 12: "Yet the law is not of faith, but 'the man who does them shall by them live.'"

The law isn't about faith or belief. The law is about performance! The law is about doing what it demands in order to gain life. That's why Paul says that "the men who does them" (the rules) will by them get eternal life.

But in order to get life by law you must obey the law. Since none are obeying like Christ then none can be justified by law and therefore none can gain life by their obedience to the law.

You see the law does not give a "C" for effort; it doesn't use the Bell Curve. The law demands that you life Christ's life of unselfish love (agape). Failure to do so brings you "the curse".

In Romans 2:13, Deuteronomy 27:26 & Galatians 3:10 Paul is stating the same truth:

"For not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified".

The Jews heard the law recited every Sabbath in their Synagogues. That wasn't enough, says Paul. You must do the law in order to be just before it.

Hence mankind's need is to be delivered from under law legally. That has occurred in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

What's to agree, or disagree with?

Are you telling me that there are parts of the Bible that you disagree with, and think are wrong?

What's to agree, or disagree with?

Let's see - you agree with Bob that "the doers of the law will be justified" before God. Therefore you must agree that "cursed is the man who does not uphold...the law by doing them".

Here's Ellen White on the law:

Complete obedience is the only condition that meets the requirement of the law. “God is not a man, that He should lie.” God’s law is the rule of His government. He says, “This do, and thou shalt live.” But to the disobedient He says, “Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things written in the book of the law to do them.”

So what Bob and you are still teaching is the Old Covenant - which is, "obey & live" - "disobey & die".

The terms of the “old covenant” were, Obey and live: “If a man do, he shall even live in them” (Eze. 20:11; Lev. 18:5); but “cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them.” Deut. 27:26. [EGW]

No! What's wrong is Bob's and your interpretation.

How is quoting the text, interpreting it wrong?

We didn't tell you what the text means. The text itself does that. LOL

Yes, according to the text you must obey in order to get heaven.

Now, was God really serious, or did He give the Old Covenant for another purpose?

Since when did "obey & live" - "disobey & die" become the Old Covenant?
