Robert Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Ummm... Robbie, you asked how to overcome self interest, not about agape or manufacturing love...... But what you say is a lie....You haven't given up self-interests. Agape is a love with zero self-interests.

One would not feed themselves, sleep/wake-up, bathe, etc. It would be foolish and it would mean death. It would be the biggest waste of the gift of life. No, what I speak of is the defeat of self interest as being the RULING factor in ones actions. Also I would like to point out that the word LIE that you used is really out of place. A difference in philosophy? Sure. Calling it a lie, thats what one does when they: a:) are unsure of their response, its a last ditch effort. or b:) have an ego that tells them that only they can be right. Only they know all of the answers. Both a and b are pretty heavy in self interest would you not agree?

bonnie Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I thought you were to love your neighbor as yourself. If you have zero self interest that would give you zero interest in anyone else Mark 12:31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself No Bonnie - you are supposed to get the extremely wealthy to love your neighbor. Not you silly girl Pretty silly isn't it.Somehow I grew up with the idea that what I try to insist others do begins with me. Personally I think anyone that is so obsessed with others self interest has a real problem far closer to home. Not willing to change that a way has to be found to make their personal behavior acceptable. Raising the bar beyond the level of what I believe God did makes it necessary to find a way that what you demand of others does not apply to yourself. When your thinking is so convoluted that you can call pleasure in helping another self seeking and therefore a sin,you have to find a way to make your own self centeredness and SELF INTEREST acceptable. As in "I don't have to,I am not under the law" Legalist tho I have been called I don't look at sharing or helping someone as "I have to" or what is in it for me" Or the more convenient,"I DON"T HAVE TO" Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. I find people that have to hammer an idea at people are mostly just looking for validation of that theology. In that case it makes it pretty hard to take that theology to seriously because the person preaching it is not secure in it......
Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Mark 12:31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself ... How many commands are there, Bonnie?
Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 One would not feed themselves, sleep/wake-up, bathe, etc. Not self-hate, but rather living to serve. In order to serve you must feed & cloth the body. Paul: "If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that."
Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Somehow I grew up with the idea that what I try to insist others do begins with me. Bonnie, it's not me insisting: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."
bonnie Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Paul: "If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that." As Robert is content with that and HIS EXPENSIVE VEHICLES and his computer and probably is nice house? Bet Paul walked and didn't possess the wardrobe you have. Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. Paul didn't think a home was a good idea for people?
bonnie Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 But it takes self interest to do that by your earlier theories. Paul didn't think a home was a good idea for people? Ah come on,what did Paul know? Don't know if I could handle it,but the lifestyle of some here may have far more appeal than that of Paul. Everything you do is based on the choices you make. bonnie Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Bonnie, it's not me insisting: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Got a hot flash for you,you never have nor ever will speak for God. I have little interest in someone that cherry picks texts as you do. I have said before, the bible says if you do not work, you shall not eat. You can find various texts that go along with that, making a good case for "tough luck, you are not working,no food for you" You do the same with your selected messages and forget the rest that go along with your cherry picking. The biggest problem I have in even considering the validity of what you post is I don't think you believe it yourself.Or if you do,I think it is to make yourself feel better about your own obsessive self interest and selfishness.By saying "I am not under that pesky law,I don't have to do what I claim God demands others do". Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Paul didn't think a home was a good idea for people? Tell you what - ask him yourself. But to do that you need to accept Christ. Deny Christ, deny life...accept Christ, obtain life. Christ is the way, the truth and the light. No one goes to heaven accept through Him.
Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Got a hot flash for you,you never have nor ever will speak for God. I have little interest in someone that cherry picks texts as you do. No cherry picking, bonnie. Read the whole context, here: Read

Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 By saying "I am not under that pesky law,I don't have to do what I claim God demands others do". Are you under that "pesky" law?

Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Mark 12:31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself ... Again, how many commands are there, Bonnie?
bonnie Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Just to put your mind at rest Matthew 22:37-40 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” I can't separate "Love your God" from "all the law' You can.You claim this means a verbal acknowledgement and what? concerning God. Love your God and Love thy neighbor as thy self" is well represented in the ten. I do think you see it as a convenience to void part of God's law. Good for you. It helps you with "Hey,I don't have to" You have my sympathy, anyone that views his religious convictions within the box of "I don't have to or I have to" really can't be at peace with his convictions Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. Robert Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Again, you didn't answer the question. How many commands in "love your neighbor as yourself"? I mean surely you can count to at least three?
bonnie Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 That wasn't an answer, BTW. Then let me spell it out for you. It was not intended to be.However I did answer you after that. Now as I can see you understand what a question to you indicates can those of us that ask you a question assume you understand a answer is expected? Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame.
