No es cierto. Tengo muchas subcontractistas que trabajan para mi que no pueden inglés.

El trabaja con toda la gente. Cuando tiene que comunicarse con alguien que no puede español, él usa uno de sus hijos para transducir.

People like you live in a fantasy world if you think not learning English is alright.

I have always, ALWAYS had to prove that I was a LEGAL US resident if/when I ever applied for help from the government. I have had to prove where I lived, legal residential status as well as for my children. I have had to prove income, rent, utilities and whether or not I was able to apply based on financial need.

Where you live or lived must have been very liberal in handing out money if you did not have to prove that you were not of alien status and were here legally.

This is a strawman. Put a fire to him. Burn him up. Homelessness is not caused by immigration.

It is not a strawman...no one stated that homelessness is caused by immigration. That was your spin on what was written. Your strawman is in your own mind.

Illegal immigration is a causative factor in using up Federal and State funds that could be used to help legitimate legal residents who are in desparate need. Illegal immigrants DO work at jobs and earn money, but they can and DO receive Federal and State funds, be it for healthcare, their children's education, or food and housing.

I guess we can just burn the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. They were written in the ancient language of English, not the new age Spanish.

I was not aware that Elder Ted Wilson is an immigrant and speaks fluent Spanish. Is Spanish now the language at the GC? I hope Tom Wetmore is also fluent in Spanish or he might be out of a job, as well as all those other substandard-English-speaking workers at the GC.

Uno for all and all for Uno. Isn't Uno a card game?

Thank you rudywoofs, I could not have said it better myself.

I have deleted my last post due to the fact that rudywoofs said it better than I ever could have.

The ONLY time homelessness has been mentioned is when you said we did not have any homeless children out on the streets. It was never mixed in with immigrants. That is of your own doing. Do not mix one with another please.

I encourage all immigrants to learn English. I also encourage young people to go to college or vocational training. However I would never think of forcing someone to learn English or go to college. That is just plain wrong. That is not what America is all about.

Here in the Southwest portion of the US, a lot of immigrants have been successful without learning English. Querer es poder.

Shane, where do you get your information? By osmosis?

1. Federal and State funds are constantly being shifted from one area to another. That is common knowledge. Just read your newspaper....or the Congressional Records. Oh, dear. Those are written in English. I'm sorry. Perhaps you could volunteer to transcribe the Records into Spanish.

2. No one implied that helping immigrants cause homelessness. The implication is in your mind because you seem to want it there.

3. Ted Wilson was not born as an Egyptian; he was born as an American. He is fluent in French, not Spanish. How does this make the leadership of the Adventist church Hispanic in nature?

Not so. It has been implied that in helping immigrants we cause homelessness.

Shane, implied is another word for assuming. Please do not assume or put words into anyone else' mouth. That in itself is your opinion and please take responsibility for that opinion.

Take it to your Spanish Forum, Shane. I'm not going to bite.

Wow! Quite the display of intolerance. "Querer es poder" is a commonly known Spanish expression like "Que sera sera" or "Hasta la vista". Translated into English it means "Where there is a will, there is a way" - "Querer es poder"

Let me guess. You don't speak Spanish and thus all your friends speak English? If you learn Spanish and start attending a Spanish-speaking Adventist church, I think your eyes will be opened and the scales will fall off.

I know how to speak Spanish, and my eyes have been opened and are opened.

I have worked with the Salvation Army and never saw any children living on the streets. If we had ever seen that we would have called the county and gotten the kids into Foster Care.

Now that would help out the economy wouldn't it? Children and their families are not on the streets because that is where they choose to live, they are there because of what has happened in their lives and can not get help. I'm waiting for the backlash from what I have said here. I know it is forthcoming.

Wow. When that happened to you, Renewed_faith, what did you do? Did you let them go hungry, or did you find a way--even if it meant digging into your own pockets--to feed those children?

I dug into my pocket which only had change, took them to the nearest place that offered food and purchased what they wanted. I only had a few dollars and it took all of what I had that day.

If they lose their home, the city can sell it and use the money gained to pay a translator. No problem. The person that loses their home can get an apartment in government housing.

Now now, isn't THIS a standard to live by. Do not worry, you do not have to speak English, all you have to do is go to a bank, use your fake ID and SS number. Falsify your income and gain a house. However, if you are no longer able to keep this place you call home, and you lose it, no worry, the government AFTER selling your house will pay a translator to explain in Spanish that you lost your home and they are going to hire me to tell you what happened. The wonderful part of this whole thing is because you no longer have a house, the government will put you up in a nice rundown, shabby, rodent infested quarters of their government housing of which you will only have to pay partial rent and never have to worry about losing your home again because where you will be living belongs to the government anyway.

Teach a man to fish (English) and he can feed multitudes. Don't, and he will have food for the next day.

I was simply exposing the error that a city would have to hire interpreters for every language. That simply is not accurate.

So, if they need the Thai language then they can hire a Spanish interpreter? They DO need one for every language unless of course you know a way that is different.

I'm sure you do though. Right???

Taken out of context... Here is the post in its entirety.

But we let our own legal residents of America starve to death on our streets and in our homes because we give money to others who don't even learn our language? Nope, that's not right nor is it fair. Raising taxes for some would only mean kicking them to the streets and starving our own and basically killing them because they can not afford to keep their homes any longer or purchase food.

Can you see starving Americans just because they can not afford taxes or that they do not have a place to live? How about starving Americans just because they do not have children so they can not get the state help? How about all those living out on the streets with no family to help them? No government who will pay their bills or teach them how to get and retain a job? How about those who can not do anything about their position in life? How about those who's husbands or wives who have died and no longer can get the medical attention they so badly need? While we are helping and paying for people to interpret the English language because people do not want to learn it so they can prosper in our country?

When you want legal immigrants to learn english to become self sufficient citizens that is synonymous with wanting those in need to go hungry. Some will even tell you that you wish to see them starve.

But there is no doubt you are prejudice. It can't be any other way.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

Immigrants do not demand that private sector companies translate for them. Private sector companies do that because they want to gain that sector of the market. They do it because by doing so they increase their profits.

In the US, a suspect is assumed innocent until proven guilty. If the government arrests someone speaking Swahili that doesn't speak English, the burden is on the government to provide a translator. The suspect is assumed innocent. The suspect shouldn't have to pay for a translator when he or she is assumed to be innocent.

If the Swahili wasn't doing anything illegal then he/she has nothing to worry about and won't be arrested.
