My oldest brother is a independent trucker.When he has a load that requires a co-driver under no circumstances will it be a non english speaking driver. During the time my brother sleeps the co-driver needs to be able to respond to a number of dispatcher's.He needs to be able to read a map and road signs.Nor will he hire a translator to ride with the co-driver.

My youngest brother has a real estate and property management company. Guess what language his employee's are going to speak.There will not be a translator hired to escort his employee's around.

My husband was a painter. He was responsible for anything done on the property.Guess what language his employee's needed to speak.They needed to read english and follow direction in english.

What a crock to post videos of learning english in such a way to invalidate the realities that one should learn the English language when you choose to move to America by a persons OWN choice. It is a choice to move here where immigrants know the USA will supply all their needs, all their wants, all their food, clothing, housing, education, interpreters, EVERYTHING they need to live in our country.

Why don't we open all our borders, take in all the other countries as our own, support everyone and then for the USA LEGAL residents whom have lived here, paid taxes, fought for our country, paid our dues, lost lives, and everything else we have done and pay for all of the illegal immigrants who do not want nor desire the need to learn the English language. We should pay for all their education in spanish, or whatever the language they speak. We should make sure they have a place to live with their children or if they do not have children. We should pay for all their medical and the furthering of their education in THEIR language, make sure they have a NEW car, and that ALL their needs are met while we let our own vets, our armed forces, our children, our families starve on the streets or in group homes or in shelters. Let the immigrants reign in all of our freedoms except the English language. Prosper as best they can with the USA tax dollars.

Our families can do the street living, the lack of medical, the shelter living and the poverty. Oh wait! We already are!!!

But at least now, we can show the "love"

I enjoyed this--and particularly since I teach English Composition-- but my wife, whose native language is Spanish, didn't understand much of it. She's been in this country for over 20 years, but she only has a sixth grade education. The man in the video talks too fast for her, and he also assumes his auditors understand grammatical terms which my wife knows nothing about.

If you believe that my brother should hire a variety of translators and keep them on hand at each site you don't.He would expect them to be serious enough about the job and the desire to work to learn english

A translator would be needed not only on site but within speaking distance for each language spoken.

At time my brother would have to have upwards of 20 translators depending on how many jobs he has going. Having a spanish speaking translator in the office is quite pointless. It is also pointless if the one you need is Japanese.

You are also wrong on his competitors as they would need to do same. Most in his area are union shops so there is no paying lower wages.My brother was non-union and paid union scale or above.

Very few would be experienced in what they would need to know and still not speak english.

The less risky jobs still require the ability to read in english and to be able to communicate with co-workers without waiting for a translator to come along.

What you may have that close to the border I have no idea.I do know what may work for you does not apply to all others.

I think a lot of people that pound the English-only drum are mad because they feel left out. There is so much stuff going on in the Spanish community and they are just left standing in the side lines. When they hear the "press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish" they turn green with envy. They really really want to press 2 and be part of the Spanish speaking world but they can't. They are left out. And they see all these immigrants in restaurants and shopping centers enjoying life and visiting in Spanish and their hearts burn in envy. So they lash out. Like a little child throwing a temper tantrum. They cry "Make them learn English" They throw themselves on the ground and pound their fists up and down yelling "it's not fair, I don't understand them."

There is a solution. Learn Spanish. Broaden your world. If you can't beat it, join it.

I know what the smart people do. I see it a lot. Companies from up north come down here and put an ad in the paper. They conduct interviews at a local hotel and hire entire Spanish-speaking crews to go up north and work.

Spanish is the future of America. Within a generation nearly half of the nation will be speaking it. Mexico is advancing. Our trade with them is increasing. The world is becoming smaller. Learn the language or get left behind.
