bonnie Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I think a lot of people that pound the English-only drum are mad because they feel left out. There is so much stuff going on in the Spanish community and they are just left standing in the side lines. When they hear the "press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish" they turn green with envy. They really really want to press 2 and be part of the Spanish speaking world but they can't. They are left out. And they see all these immigrants in restaurants and shopping centers enjoying life and visiting in Spanish and their hearts burn in envy. So they lash out. Like a little child throwing a temper tantrum. They cry "Make them learn English" They throw themselves on the ground and pound their fists up and down yelling "it's not fair, I don't understand them." There is a solution. Learn Spanish. Broaden your world. If you can't beat it, join it. Can't quite get to an answer can you? You may not have had a life until you could speak spanish and take part in the "fun" but most people are not that limited. My mexican DIL's seem to function quite well and enjoy life without making demands on others. Talk about a temper tantrum,"The no I am not going to learn and you are going to take care of me" would qualify for most people. What isn't fair is not the inability to understand them.It is the demands that others provide for them for however long they choose. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
bonnie Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 No innuendos from me. I straight up told you that your views (not you) were narrow and xenophobic. Would it be better if everyone simply stood by and *didn't* challenge views that hurt people? WWJD? One thing you have neglected. That is to explain how wanting them to learn english at our expense so they coulld provide for their families is prejudice. How long should others be expected to provide for the families of immigrants that refuse to learn? 1 Year,20 years, maybe for life? Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. No-one else is talking about people who are on welfare because they can't speak English, only you. Go back and read rudywoof's original post. Her complaint was about the 'Press 2 for Spanish' on phones, and other ways in which languages other than English impinge on her life. My next-door neighbor is Mexican and we are good friends. The Spanish SDA church in my city was built right next to the English SDA church. The Spanish church was built free of charge to the hispanics, and is a huge building with the latest in technology provided free of charge to them. Within 2 years, the restrooms in that church were a shambles - broken toilets, backed up water systems, stained carpeting in the classrooms and sanctuary, etc, filth everywhere. bonnie Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 One thing I find really interesting is the legal immigrants that have done all they can to make a better life for themselves and families disagree with you. We have not walked in the shoes of either the legal or illegals. Those that have possess more credibility than those that have not. I will take the view of our neighbor, one that did it right and really did have it hard over that of you or Shane. He sponsors many families from Mexico. Those that do not intend to learn english and live off the government will not be helped by him. Those that will not make any effort to help themselves no matter what is made available to them are leeches on the taxpayer as far as he sees it. Moderators John317 Posted July 29, 2010 Moderators Posted July 29, 2010 I am done posting here. I have had innuendos thrown at me of which I do not need. I am not the one that should learn the English language. ....Whether or not I practice it on the intranet is of my own choice. I do not need someone telling me or posting English lessons for those of us who already know how to read and I do comprehend the English language. Immigrants do not. I hope you don't go, Renewed. I don't think anyone meant to insinuate that you don't know English. You obviously know it very well. Moderators John317 Posted July 29, 2010 Moderators Posted July 29, 2010 Well, now that you have watched it, I'm sure you can help her with any problems that she may have when using the articles "a" and "an". Though, with a background in English Composition, you most likely already knew everything in the video. Yes, I did, and my wife showed just a few minutes ago that she understood it also. She was an illegal alien for about the first 6 months of our marriage, and hardly knew a word of English. We had to work really hard at communicating, and learning Spanish opened up a whole new world for me. I think mocking is used to make you be quiet and go away rather than answer the questions. Most people, separate from the topic of race, know that it is not either right or healthy for people to live off the charity of others. Personally,I think people that want others to remain dependent are the prejudiced ones. For their own selfish reasons they do not care much about the dependent becoming productive citizens. To remain a lifetime on welfare should not be wished on anyone. Many that yell christian the loudest can also be the loudest on wanting others to stay dependent. When you are mocked know that your questions can't be answered and leave them alone. We all should Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Moderators John317 Posted July 29, 2010 Moderators Posted July 29, 2010 My wife's niece and her husband came to the US illegally because we helped them, in order to get medical care for their 4 year old boy who was dying. The Mexican doctors misdiagnosed his cancer and were giving him the wrong medication. Carlito was going blind as a result. So we helped them move to a place where they could get the right treatment and save their little boy. The mother and the children recently moved back to Mexico, but the father is still in the US working as manager at a large hotel in that city. He started out cleaning the floors and worked his way up to manager. When he first started working there, his boss spit on the floor and told him to clean it up. But since his baby was sick and needed medical help, Carlos couldn't quit, so he cleaned up this man's spit without talking back, but now Carlos is the manager. He knew no English when he first came but over the last ten years, he's learned it and knows it now very well. (He is still illegal.) Carlito died about 4 years ago as a result of a ruptured appendix. His cancer was in remission. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Many of the latter group are quite wealthy. Oh I know some Spanish-speaking immigrants are quite wealthy. Take, for instance, the hospital ER's. We have to label everything inside a patient's wallet. Invariably, inside the hispanics wallets were wads and wads of $100 bills. Funny thing, though, we tracked and found that the majority of those patients did not pay their bills. We have some of the nicest hispanic families in our town.I think it the same in the surrounding towns. They do not demand their neighbors feed and clothe them because they don't learn english. Our neighbor is hispanic and has a beautiful family. They are not running the streets and joining gangs. They can all speak english and makes no demand to be cared for.
