Dr. Shane Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 and you say there are no homeless children out there and that if there are, it is drug addicts and mentally ill???? That my friend is stereotyping if I ever saw it. Again, we run into the issue of definitions. In America, children living in a shelter with their mother are considered homeless. These children go to school, get medical attention and are fed three times a day. In Mexico homeless children live on the street and beg for money. The sleep in allies, parks and abandoned buildings. They don't go to school, get medical attention and often go days without eating. I was a homeless child myself because I ran away from home when I was 14. I was an alcoholic and drug addict. I didn't go to school nor receive medical attention. I ate out of dumpsters. I understand what homeless is. I've been there, done that. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 That cheap labor is saving the average household in California far more than $1,183 each year in their grocery bill alone. Then there is the cheap restaurant labor. The cheap landscaping labor. The cheap cleaning labor. Sounds like those in California are getting a real deal. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Perhaps in 50 years Spanish will become the official language of the USA. I don't think the US will ever have an official language. That is one of the reasons immigrants don't scare me. The difference between Mexico and the US is our form of government. Most Mexicans that come here love their culture but are fleeing their government. Mexico is a very wealthy nation but corruption keeps the wealth in the hands of only a few. America is the land of opportunity and Mexicans coming here are not looking to change the US to be more like Mexico. As long as our form of government remains as it has been, the US will continue to prosper regardless what its racial make-up is. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Ellen Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 It seems to be only English speaking people who dig their heels in and refuse to learn another language and think all other language speaking people should learn English because it is the international language. There's no question that Adam and Eve didn't speak English, neither did Jesus or his desciples. At campmeeeting one of the new ministers being ordained was from one of the slavic countries and the speaker asked if he said his name correctly. The minister said he almost got it right. Then the speaker said a greeting in his language. It went over so well. I won't forget it. You hear spanish on the messages, we hear french - handle it. Quote

Wishing for the non english speaking immigrant to learn english is not a matter of digging in your heels. Most employment is "english required"What they speak at home or among their own is their business. The idea that english speaking companies should learn and offer employment in another language. What language Adam and Eve spoke or what language Christ spoke hasn't anything to do with the current situation. Hate to share with you that you are wrong. For the safety of all concerned english was mandatory. My brother had many jobs going at once.According to you there should be a translator on all jobs covering all language. There really is no way to do that. On a large job a spanish speaking immigrant could be on one end and the translator on another. No one can or will hire a translator to follow all non english speaking employee. His competitors didn't do anything of the sort. You may not have a problem putting employee's at risk but most would. Steel erectin is a job that requires being able to understand the instructions. You seem to make up "facts" as you go along. As for his competitors laughing all the way to the bank because they hired translators,a little doubtful. In your "wisdom" how would you hire a spanish speaking translator and he would be needed on several sites in several different places on those sites. Understanding between co-workers is a must. If you would like,I can go through many many more articles on the web and post them here for you or just the link to educate you and show you just how much "love" they should be getting. America's Forgotten Children Homeless and Street Youth By Andreana Reeves Poverty and homelessness in America is an obvious and disturbing issue. But what is less obvious and even more disturbing is that a great majority of the poor and homeless are teens and children. In the U.S., one out of every four homeless individuals is a child. Despite this population’s very real existence, they do not exist to many people. Whenever there is a school shooting, the media inundates us with images of the event for weeks after it happens. Yet the public never hears about the 13 children who die on the streets every day (Stand Up for Kids). Few realize how serious the problem is because they rarely see homeless kids, nor do they hear about their struggles. Homeless teens and children are a particularly hidden population because they do not want to be returned to their homes. The majority of them come from homes of extreme poverty or horrible abuse, and tend to hide in alleys, under bridges, and other unseen places. In fact, as many as 92% of homeless youth were physically or sexually abused in their homes (Better Homes Fund). It is easy to overlook such an invisible population, but the problem has reached catastrophic proportions. Currently there are 1.3 million homeless and runaway street kids in the United States (Stand Up for Kids). These numbers only include reported runaways, and do not account for children who were forced out of their homes, abandoned by the foster care system, or are part of a homeless family. The problem is especially critical because little is being done to address the situation. Homeless children often have few resources at their disposal, rendering them helpless and alone. While much discussion centers on helping homeless adults, homeless children are often overlooked. Oftentimes, people may be reluctant to help these kids because they fear encouraging their “misbehavior” or keeping them from returning home. Homeless kids are perceived as delinquent teenagers who have run away from home because they refuse to follow rules or feel they can take care of themselves. Alarmingly, the average age of a homeless person in the United States is nine (Institute of Children and Poverty). There are in fact many kids below the age of nine on the streets, some with their families but most trying to survive on their own. Unable to support themselves with a job, children so young have very few options. Many have to resort to prostitution, stealing, or selling drugs just to eat every day. Stand Up for Kids, an organization that provides necessities for homeless youth, and volunteers who are willing to listen to their problems, reports that almost half of the children on the streets turn to prostitution within 48 hours of leaving home. In addition to the necessity of finding food, homeless teens and children face constant police hassling and the threat of physical and sexual assault. One study found that 60% of youth on the streets have been raped or assaulted (Youth Care). Homeless youth must face all the difficulties homeless adults do, but are more helpless and lacking in maturity. In addition to Stand Up for Kids, there are a few organizations that reach out to homeless and street kids, like Kidsacks in Cleveland, which gives sleeping bags to homeless kids. Both of these organizations and a few others focus on giving kids what they need and assuring them that someone cares. Other organizations like Hamilton Transitional Housing Program in San Francisco focus on homeless families and enrichment for the children of these families. Despite the efforts of these organizations, much still needs to be done to help homeless teens and children. And until there are no children on the streets, there will always be more to be done. For some when I post links or articles it would seem they just skim over it to see what would make their point valid and if there was nothing then ridicule is prevalent to those whom have posted it. I could have posted an article to whatever and it would seem the name calling by some would still continue because they have not opened the link/s to at least read what was posted. It is a fact that if one does not learn to communicate in English here it is hard if not impossible to get anywhere in America. It is fact that here in America there is an alarming rate of HOMELESSNESS among our children and families that is growing each and every 24 hours. It is fact that if people do not help themselves there will be no one there to help them except if WE as taxpayers help them. However, our money is going out of the country to help others as we lose our own. What a catastrophic neglect we are doing on our own in America Quote

Yeah, they didn't require a benefit package because they use American tax dollars for free services and food because they lie to the agencies who dole out the money and food stamps. Have you ever watched a steel erection crew at work.It is dangerous work. Accidents are more likely to end in death than just injuries. Most employer's in this business know that following instruction and being able to communicate for safety reasons is essential for the safety of their employee's A translator at the other side of the job is worthless. Nor was my brother crying over the state of the economy. He is of retirement age and decided it was not worth it to keep the business going.
